Hmmm... I completely forgot about that. Did you know there was an FVWM98, too?

Edit: Someone also made an FVWM95 Facebook page, which uses the Wikipedia page for its information. Nothing new here, but it's popular enough to have a Facebook page, so I guess there's still hope.

A bot, more likely -- and if popularity these days is measured based on Facebook presence, we're all doomed.

FVWM95 was a very short-lived fork.  None of the functionality was ever merged into FVWM proper, but several ideas from it were implemented in FVWM, and to this day if you wanted to, you can make FVWM look like windows.  Just look at fvwm-themes for an example.

But FVWM95 is unusable today with most "modern" applications, so other than historical interest, that's all the use it has.

It's not? Where have you been for the last 3 years? And we were doomed, which is why we were supposed to be raptured yesterday. Obviously, even God isn't strong enough to stop Facebook. :-P

@EndlessDissent: When you log into the forums, there is a "New Messages (x)" link top right. With "x" being the number of new / unread PMs. It would be nice to have an email notification option for PMs though.

Yeah, this host deal better work out, or the world will end...at least for said hosting company! lol

No problem on the Dropbox thing. Gives me something new to mess with. tongue

Palemoon just announced that the torrents are up now for anyone that is interested.

Re: WindowMaker dead?

@ElderV.LaCoste: I was just coming here to say that. lol Thanks for taking care of it for me.

I set up my own tracker, so the torrents should run a bit smoother this time around. tongue Hopefully, my web host is gentle when they find the tracker. big_smile It will only track Lemur so it shouldn't be a problem. However, the very mention of torrents or trackers here in the USSA causes wide spread panic amongst providers. big_smile

Thanks again!

Torrent added to my list.

I've come to like Openbox during my time with #!. It's a great window manager. However, I have kind of a soft spot for WindowMaker. I used to use it in Slackware, and I liked that it could be configured so easily, and it was light on resources, so it performed very well on my PIII 866. Unfortunately, from what I can find through Google and the project's website, it seems like the project is dead. I searched the WM/DE Talk section of the forums and found no more than 4 or 5 total mentions of WindowMaker, all of which were past tense, some of which mentioning how it "was" a good window manager. The fact that the latest release is in the Debian stable repo is also troubling to me, and the last update on the website is from 2008. Of course, the last update before that was from 2006, so I guess they're not too concerned with constant, possibly unnecessary updates.

I figure that if anyone has information on the status of WindowMaker, it would be someone on these forums. I suppose that if it really is dead, I'm prepared to make fully make the move to Openbox, because it's almost as easy to configure the way I want. Of course, there's also nothing stopping me from using the last version of WindowMaker, so I might do that, but I'd be more comfortable with a window manager that's being actively maintained. Also, AfterStep isn't quite the same. I've tried it, but I still prefer WindowMaker by a large margin.

Thank you in advance for any information on this.

Re: WindowMaker dead?

I gave up on Liquid Lemur after the switch to Fedora and then they dropped WindowMaker (or rather the guy working on it left I guess).  I really liked that distro with WindowMaker.  sad

Hi, ElderV

Lemur Window Maker is actually still alive, although you are correct that DragonPalemoon (the founder of Liquid Lemur) had to take a leave of absence from the project for a couple of months due to personal reasons.  He is working on a new release of the Window Maker version of Lemur right now.  We are hoping this will be ready soon - but soon in this case is pretty subjective due to DragonPalemoon's other commitments.

The other developers have put together an Xfce version (which Lemur always had, as well) and that is available right now if anyone wants to give release candidate 2 a spin.  Downloads are available at http://www.liquidlemur.com/cms/downloads

There was (as you pointed out) a move away from the Debian Testing base originally used.  Lemur is now built on an Arch base, not a Fedora / Red Hat base.  This decision was reached among the developers - including DragonPalemoon.

As a project, Lemur is still moving forward, and I hope anyone interested in an out-of-the box Window Maker implementation will check in with the project from time to time - there will be a new release of the Window Maker version in the (relatively) near future.  IMHO - Lemur had, and will have, the best OOTB Window Maker experience available, so please stay tuned.  You can check http://www.liquidlemur.com/lforum/index.php for updates.

Re: WindowMaker dead?

Update:  I just tried the Xfce version and it looks and runs real nice.  Beautiful work.  I can't wait to see the WindowMaker version because Xfce with Docky doesn't work well on my older computer.
