Topic: Did you know Emerald is a dead project?

So I just found out that Emerald is dead, and has been for a long time. Since Emerald is my prefered Window Decorator in Compiz standalone, I feel kinda screwed at the moment.

Also I asked on the Arch boards what the future will hold for Compiz - not much as far as I can guess. Seems that I'll be moving away to GNOME Shell then, when the issues with Catalyst are solved.

Did you know Emerald is considered dead?

Let's do it and don't screw it.

As long as it actually works it can be as dead as it wants. %)

Some people say Perl is dead, but I love it anyway. )

They say Compiz has a window decorator of some sort though: http://wiki.compiz.org/Decorators/GTKWindowDecorator

GTKWindowDecorator has been around for a long time.. actually it's just metacity AFAIK. Pulls in alot of gnome deps last time I tried, so not really a solution. Oh, and now that metacity is getting deprecated pretty soon as well, it gets even worse.

You're right about the first part though lol

One Arch guy said they were working on a new release named Jasper, but they abandoned the project.

Re: Did you know Emerald is a dead project?

It is strange for software in such wide use to go "dead". I know lots of the software I write for my own personal libraries never gets developed past "it does what it is designed too". I don't think that is the case here though, I would be interested to know why the project isn't active usually people lose intrest because of more popular/better alternatives but, I don't see that being the case either.

Re: Did you know Emerald is a dead project?

I don't care whether it's dead or not. It's there and it's good the way it is. I will simply continue using the sources we have until GTK does something to screw up the design. Yep yep...

I'm so meta, even this acronym

Same, until GNOME Shell works with Catalyst. I wanted to switch anyway.
