This is one of the most fecking powerful films I've ever seen.  Ed Harris totally owns the role, and Jeff Beal's film score really helps bring the audience into Jackson's inner turmoil.

Agreed. Great film, though I think the book it was based on is a bit better, or at least broader in scope. Biggest revelation with regards to the film was Ed Harris' talent as an illustrator (many of the paintings were his own interpretations of Pollock's work).

Re: #! Movie List

^ Absolutely!  The painting scenes caught me so off guard - I found myself looking really closely to see if they were using a painter double for Ed.  (They weren't. yikes)

Re: #! Movie List

Although I'm somewhat of movie nut, I try to steer away from the "Which movie is the best" conversations. What we see and hear is way too subjective to make definitive judgements on and almost always ends up in some sort of disagreement. Also, with time, tastes change. What I thought was good 30 years ago, now seems old, quaint and dated and what I think rocks right now, may change in the future. One's mood also plays a big part.

I'm quite a fan of Takashi Miike's work, particularly Audition. Other movies I've really enjoyed are The Bird People in China and The Happiness of the Katakuris. More mainsteam stuff like Memento, Inception & Mullholland Drive also make my list of enjoyable flieks.

Re: #! Movie List

Finally saw Weird Science, one of the John Hughes coming-of-age "feel-good" movies set in Shermer Illinois that came out when I was a teenager.  Very unrealistic dialog (I hope nobody sees this and thinks that's how we actually talked in the 1980s), but "it has its moments".  I actually felt good after watching it!

Next on the list: Sixteen Candles.

Re: #! Movie List

@fortyseven: Yes, it is subjective but see it as hints what you could watch in the future. We are just sharing. wink

Also you mentioned some nice Japanese movies I enjoyed and of course Mullholland Drive.

Re: #! Movie List

TV series:
HBO's Rome
Life on Mars
The Wire

Movies:
Clockwork Orange is the clear winner here. Such an amazing movie.

Re: #! Movie List

just saw Moneyball yesterday and it was... nice. i'm not into baseball at all so i suppose that makes it a bit harder to enjoy for me. but it has some great acting in it, especially from Philip Seymour Hofman.

Re: #! Movie List

@Arttu: I will try Rome, heard should be good, will see.

Of The Wire I was somehow disappointed, I guess my expectations were different.

And yes, Clockwork Orange is great.

Now I almost watched the whole season of Sopranos, and I am impressed.

I have watched Sopranos from start, to the start of sixth season. I'm not sure if I even want to watch rest of it, because I have heard that the ending is really, really disappointing.

Just finished watching Schindler's List. Pretty powerfull film. Loved it.

Re: #! Movie List

In my early years as a kid, we never had a tv. My dad eventually bought one when I was much older but tv shows was never something I got into. I never quite saw the point.

A few years ago I found myself without work and a lot of spare time on my hands. A friend had been telling me about this show called LOST and he kept on about how awesome it was. Eventually out of boredom I gave in and watched the pilot. Well, that was it. The next few days of my life came to a standstill as all I could do was watch episode after episode. Never had I been that addicted to something as I was to LOST in those early days. Once I'd caught up and had nothing more to watch, I needed something else to feed my new found tv series addiction.
Next up was Prison Break. Man I liked that show although the end was a bit drawn out. I then got hooked on the Stargate series and worked my way through SG1, Atlantis and eventually Universe. I continued my downward spiral of addiction with Dexter, The XFiles, Dead Like Me, Jericho, Jeremiah... the list goes on.

Some of the more recent stuff I've watched/am watching which I enjoyed are Reaper, Sons of Anarchy, Deadwood, American Horror Story, Modern Family, The IT Crowd, How I Met Your Mother, Firefly, Family Guy, The Simpsons, The Office, The Unit, Fringe (although it's starting to become a little ridiculous), The Walking Dead... I could go on indefinitely.

Re: #! Movie List

^ Yeah, my introduction to TV shows alsa was due to LOST. Before I never had interest.

Still I only can enjoy few shows.
