Topic: Crunchbang GTK3 theme?

This isn't exactly Crunchbang talk, but since it has to to with its theme(s) I suppose it fits here. If not, feel free to move it to the relevant section (artwork?).

I was thinking, with GTK3 becoming more and more 'popular' now, if someone could port the Crunchbang theme(s) to GTK3? I myself am no themer, wasn't with GTK2 and am not with GTK3. I figured that someone here might know the CSS syntaxes and can put something together using the right colors.

I'd be happy to test any themes you come up with smile

Re: Crunchbang GTK3 theme?

Yes please!

Related side note:
On the Debian Sid channel Gedit is now using GTK3, until we have #! GTK3 themes does anyone know how to manually edit GTK3 settings/themes?  Specifically I like the text only/no icons that #! has by default and after some minor Googling, haven't seen an obvious way to manually edit the GTK3 preferences (and lxappearance only works with GTK2 AFAIK)... I was going to figure this out when I had more time (and/or start a thread), but seeing as someone brought up GTK3...

The new lxappearance (from the Arch repo's) supports GTK3. Manually, you can tweak GTK3 by going to ~/.config/gtk-3.0/settings.ini. Here's mine:

[Settings]
gtk-theme-name = Zukitwo-Dark
gtk-icon-theme-name = elementary-mono-dark
#gtk-fallback-icon-theme-name = Faenza
# next option is applicable only if selected theme supports it
gtk-application-prefer-dark-theme = false
# set font name and dimension
gtk-font-name = Ubuntu 10

Re: Crunchbang GTK3 theme?

The new LXappearance 0.5 does handle gtk3 but does not tell you if the theme is gtk2 or gtk3.
The dark theme I like so far is Atolm, there are Xfce decorators but only packaged for Ubuntu so far.
As to editing gtk3 themes, few people know how yet.
Also Xfce appearance setting handles gtk3, but again it is up to you to know which themes are which.

Re: Crunchbang GTK3 theme?

@jeffreyC - Just download the theme and install it manually:

I did install the theme manually but the Xfce decorators are separate.

Sid is using LXappearance 0.5, but settings aren't affecting gtk3 apps (or at least not gedit) and there is only gtk2 related dependencies in the dependency/recommended list...

Re: Crunchbang GTK3 theme?

You have to compile lxappearance with GTK3 support and it seems that Debian does not do so.

As I said, I'm no themer myself, but according to many comments I read the theming should be easier now since GTK3 uses CSS which is more allround. For me however, it's still magic lol

I see, thanks.  I prefer editing text files where possible for simple configurations so will likely not compile lxappearance myself, but it's nice to know I can...

If you want to 'do it the easy way', take a look at the PKGBUILD in the AUR. Just copy and paste from there wink

Re: Crunchbang GTK3 theme?

@ anonymous
You have a different Atolm, I have Atolm-gtk3, no xfwm but gtk3 in it.

Get Dropbox and an extra 250 mb http://db.tt/wAizqw0

Re: Crunchbang GTK3 theme?

Does the xfwm theme from atolm gtk2 not look good with atolm gtk3?

Re: Crunchbang GTK3 theme?

I only had Atolm-gtk3, I will add the gtk2 version and try it.

Always good to see this kind of development. Speaking about don't getting comfortable with GTK3: I just switched back to #! to have GTK2 only lol

Anyway, it'll still take quite some time for GTK4 to be released, I think.

I don't know about you guys, but I think I'm just gonna wait this out until GTK7

Re: Crunchbang GTK3 theme?

Hi there smile

Any news about a gtk3 statler theme ?

I've started one but I haven't the time to finish it hmm

And my computer is crying.

Re: Crunchbang GTK3 theme?

Nope, I haven't heard anything. Although I can "edit" *cough* a theme and change some of its values, I can by no means create one from scratch or modify one to make a Statler GTK3 theme

Re: Crunchbang GTK3 theme?

The closest I have seen to a CrunchBang style of gtk3 theme is Atolm-gtk3.
Maybe someone better at modifying themes than I am could start from there.

Would still require a lot of modifying.. Crunchbang themes are more square, where Atolm is round. Also Crunchbang themes are a lighter color and don't have blue. All in all, that would require a lot of modding and testing.

And your point is? tongue

Is it about Gedit using GTK3 now? If so: there's the need for a Crunchbang GTK3 theme!
