Icons in menus looks interesting! Anybody got some screenshots?

Re: Openbox 3.5 released!

I'm using Openbox 3.5.0-rc1, from git, right now… it seems I need an update!

Re: Openbox 3.5 released!

Anyone installed this on #! yet? I tried installing from GIT, but once installed I got an error (that I didn't write down since I had to set up my machine again).

Btw, here's the deps I needed:

libtool
libpango1.0-dev
automake
libxml2-dev

Re: Openbox 3.5 released!

Looks good, I'm going to see about upgrading tonight after I get off work.

Re: Openbox 3.5 released!

Many thanks for letting me know about this, loving the icon menus now as we speak. And alt dialog looks better with this layout IMO.

What is this? What does it look like?

Re: Openbox 3.5 released!

@yuh_learn - It means the dialog box for switching between open windows now shows them in a vertical list.

Re: Openbox 3.5 released!

I'm guessing (hoping) that can be reversed? I'd rather not have a huge menu when I alt tab, and the new way looks like it will take over the screen if you're running a few programmes.

Re: Openbox 3.5 released!

Hm, I suppose this is not optional. I kind of like the old, horizontal, dialog box better.

^Agreed.  I'd rather have icons, but I suppose the text dialog helps differentiate multiple processes of the same icon.

no problem ill post it in tips and tricks

and the new dialog only takes up massive space if you have upward of 15 apps running at once, its not a big deal.

Re: Openbox 3.5 released!

Even Arch doesn't have 3.5 in testing yet. I suspect this is the evil that is LXDE. Oeh noez... LXDE might break! *panics, runs around, screams like half a chicken on the hot plate*

Oh, the package is orphaned... must be the evil doing of LXDE too.

Oh wait, didn't I like LXDE? Crap, can't have a scapegoat tonight.

I'm so meta, even this acronym

Going from that screeny by anonymous, with just two applications open it's taking up roughly 70% more space, so while you may be correct on your assessment of it not being a big deal, I think it might be more of an issue for netbook users with much less screen real estate. I'd guess that I'd only need maybe six programmes running before it took over the screen.
Hence asking if anyone knew if it could be reverted, or even changed to use tiny/no icons.

Its brain dead easy, Openbox gives you the three commands to use if you even need them xD, and with Debian the way it is you might not get 3.5 for another 2 years dude.

I see and tried:

  Dependencies in Ubuntu and Debian

In Ubuntu and Debian, install the following packages:

    * build-essential
    - inatalled
    * pkg-config
    - installed
    * libpango1.0-dev
    - problems; wants to install 20 extra packages of which:
The following packages have unresolvable dependencies.
Make sure that all required repositories are added and
    enabled in the preferences.

        libpango1.0-dev:
Depends: libfreetype6-dev but it is not going to be installed
            - it is in the repos - BUT:
            - libfreetype6-dev:
                - Depends: libfreetype6 (=2.4.2-2.1)
but 2.4.4-1~bpo60+1 is to be installed
Depends: libxft-dev but it is not going to be installed

    * Xext and Xrandr library and headers (development package) - optional but recommended

They were not enabled and are not enabled.
Used them only to get LibreOffice. Been off for a while.

Re: Openbox 3.5 released!

Are you sure you have squeeze-backports disable?

Well try using Synaptic to install libfreetype6 but force it to version 2.4.2-2.1.

I have a version of that: libfreetype6 v2.4.4-1~bpo60+1  Have no idea what that "~bpo60+1".  Other than when I did have backports open it installed a linux image with that ending that did NOT work so I deleted it.

Re: Openbox 3.5 released!

In Synaptic, select libfreetype6, and go to Package -> Force version. See if you can install 2.4.2.

BTW the ~bpo means that the package is from backports:

Sorry, Thank you #22436563  big_smile  Done.

But could that be from getting LibreOffice?

Where does one find what all those codes are after a version number?
