Please continue to use thumbnails (please try to avoid the large thumbnail imgur.com code) linking to the larger image to help those of us with slow connections. An example of the code needed is below. Most image hosting sites will automatically generate this for you as well. I've been using postimage.org lately which does a nice job.

Re: October 2011 Screenshot thread

Back using black & theme, found this minimal batman wallpaper so thought it would go perfect with the theme and desktop,

Im still not sure whether to have him to the right like in the screenshots or in the middle, i stuck him right a bit cos in a way it looks as if he is being lighted up by the conkys wink

Oh and incase you were wondering the answer is YES, batman uses #!  lol

Holy crap. I've been away from these forums for way too long...

Here's my current setup on my EeePC:

Running a Debian Net-install w/@omns post-install script and added in the CrunchBang repos. This is the first time official #! hasn't been on my hard drive in nearly two years. I had to add them in. wink

As omns already linked, you can get the conky setup here: http://url.jpope.org/1o

Re: October 2011 Screenshot thread

Here's one to get into the fall spirit with, on Statler Xfce.  The wallpaper is of an Ozarks fall scene (just where in my native Ozarks, I couldn't tell ya -- I just found the wallpaper on Google Images).  The GTK theme is one I came up with the idea for a few weeks ago.  It combines the highlighted colors of Shiki-Human, Shiki-Wise, or Shiki-Wine with the tan/dark brown of Shiki-Dust and is designed to be used with the Shiki-Dust Xfwm (or Metacity) theme.  The themes can be found at http://xfce-look.org/content/show.php/S … ent=145199

Without further ado, here are the screenshots:

ET Has Home!

I just had to wait until I saw that 01:10:11 on my wife's vertical conky with a BIG clock and calendar:

and mine is the same as last month:

all horizontal.

@ jpope - good to see you back.

Unia, you should look at the font rendering tweaks, I know Arch can have better looking fonts. I think the begginer's guide has a section on this.

Re: October 2011 Screenshot thread

Every now and then I can't resist the urge to get some eye candy and this is what I made my crunchbang look like after a short voyage to a virtual fedora with gnome 3. I even stole their wallpaper big_smile

I especially like the "Compose" entry on top of the menu that let's me start write emails in less than a second from anywhere.

The faenza-stripped icons inherit MeliaeSVG. And I made some color adjustments.

I know it is said that fonts in Arch look crap on a standard install. I haven't ever bothered to mess around with it, primarily because I don't know anything about fonts and tweaking them. Now that you brought it up to my attention again, I'll see what I have to do and might try doing it!

Try this. Make a .fonts.conf file and add in:

<?xml version="1.0"?>
<!DOCTYPE fontconfig SYSTEM "fonts.dtd">
<fontconfig>
 <match target="font">
  <edit mode="assign" name="hinting" >
   <bool>true</bool>
  </edit>
 </match>
 <match target="font">
  <edit mode="assign" name="hintstyle" >
   <const>hintfull</const>
  </edit>
 </match>
 <match target="font">
  <edit mode="assign" name="rgba" >
   <const>rgb</const>
  </edit>
 </match>
 <match target="font">
  <edit mode="assign" name="antialias" >
   <bool>true</bool>
  </edit>
 </match>
 <match target="font">
   <edit mode="assign" name="lcdfilter">
   <const>lcddefault</const>
   </edit>
 </match>

I just read the wiki, it's got an excellent guide to fonts, everything you need. One of the best articles I've found there so far, it's almost like the BSD man pages.

Re: October 2011 Screenshot thread

Thank you el_koraco smile I had noticed that page too, but one of those options makes my fonts a bit "blurry/unsharp". I'll see if it just takes time for me to get used to it or if it's something I can't work with.

EDIT: Hmm, without the RGB option it looks a bit sharper.

Re: October 2011 Screenshot thread

Play with it a little. hintsligh, hintnone and so on. Try rgb: grayscale. You can even use autohint instead of hint, though that doesn't go so well with antialias. The wiki has links to AUR packages for freetype and Ubuntu's patch, there's a multitude of options.

Re: October 2011 Screenshot thread

Already tried the Ubuntu patch - makes my fonts go nuts. I'm happy as they are now smile

Re: October 2011 Screenshot thread

I'm not all that crazy about the Ubuntu style fonts, but that's the easiest route. Usually big_smile
