Topic: Open source whole disc encryption?

Hey guys,

Anyone know of a decent opensource whole disc encryption program, similar to BeCrypt and PGP Whole Disc Encryption, and their ilk?

Cheers in advance..

Ed

Re: Open source whole disc encryption?

I didn't think TrueCrypt did whole discs, and just created a separate encryted partition?

Re: Open source whole disc encryption?

The main page says "Encrypts an entire partition or   storage device such as USB flash drive or hard drive." but maybe youre right.

I havent used it myself so Im not sure.

Re: Open source whole disc encryption?

Truecrypt will only encrypt an entire windows system, I dont think they've got an option on the linux version.

Re: Open source whole disc encryption?

you can do it with fedora when you install. you need to keep your /boot unencrypted though, so you have to shove that on a different partition. i know you probably wont want to bother with fedora just for the sake of its easy encryption set up, but perhaps with enough investigating you can find out what it uses. it may be one of the two you've already mentioned though.

Re: Open source whole disc encryption?

Well, I suspose that I could just encrypt my home partition with Truecrypt?

Re: Open source whole disc encryption?

on the alternate ubuntu installer you can set up encryption on a partition, you could do that then run the crunchbang install script.

I say never be complete, I say stop being perfect, I say lets evolve, let the chips fall where they may.

Re: Open source whole disc encryption?

Yeh that was going to be my plan should I not find a whole disc program.

Cheers guys.
