Re: #! CrunchBang Logo Competition
I've played a bit (just for fun) and mixed the isometric style by rfquerin with one of the entries by dalaio ![]()

Regarding to fonts, what about DejaVu?

That's very cool needcoffee. Love the orange and two-tone writing.
^^ I like the ones on the left hand side ![]()
^^ I like the ones on the left hand side
... and I like those on the right-hand side! Very subtle.
I'm glad you guys like it.
Everyone has posted great work. My creativeness appears to have left. ![]()
I decided to revisit my previous isometric style logo. I've switched it to face right (which somehow seems more natural) and then decided to lop off the front 'face' of it. I think it looks pretty neat. It only consists of two shades of grey and works on a variety of background colours. The colours of the actual logo and text are unchanged in all four examples.
I still like this design, but after looking at it for a while it started feeling really heavy to me. What do you think about thinning it up? I know you lose some of the nice intersections you get especially with the # and the !. Sorry don't mean to step on any toes.

Something about the thinner ones just doesn't look quite right IMHO
This might be a stupid question, but I have to ask. Should we be thinking about CrunchEee?
^^not a stupid question at all !!
maybe a specific logo based on "cruncheee" instead of "crunchbang"... but what about "#!"... "#E","#e","#e!"... ?
very good question jdugan ![]()

I agree: the OP art and the "box look" get lost. Besides, the thin version associates, in my eyes, with crux ordinaria.

+1
Great design...is it effective for a logo tough? I just wonder if its too big...
I just wonder if its too big...
Well, size matters, as it seems. Icon size would require some modifications, I guess: the text doesn't work if it's too small and the light version needs more contrast in smaller sizes (I added 25 units in GIMP). But rfquerin's isometric logo still looks like a winner to me, even when reduced into icon size (below, it's not really that small, but you can scale it up and down).

Something else to consider

hi!
yet another try. No telling, .eps file, supersmall (~1200bytes), no font property issues, and so on.
This time, I took the inspiration from jdugan #185 post, of using "h" of crunch and "b" of bang to incorporate into # and !
(hope he doesn't mind!), but switched to capitals, more similar to the present logo. I was in doubt if using rounded or squared shapes for the (!). Finally used rounded, but it is easy to change.
A new draft. Ignore amateur clumsiness and observe good intentions and enthusiasm over the #! parameters, please. You can view a larger version via the thumbnail. LATER: Added a desktop scrot [and later still] ... another one.

Good points and great job on the icon...only problem is that it's too hard to see...I'm not sure where the icon ends and the white forum background begins for the front and front-right faces of the icon. Maybe the black would be better...or maybe it just depends on the background...just some thoughts!

Well, as I see it, that's just part of the fun.
By the way, the slant typeface that is a feature of the hash sign (or "crunch", #), and not only in italics, brings to my mind another "parametre" besides speed.
It actually associates, in my eyes at least, with something like a collapsing scaffold. And this association brings me to another central parametre: sense of humour. CrunchBang stroke me from the beginning as a distro with a sense of humour:

Well, I have had remarkably little problems with #!; it might well be the most stable of the few distros I have tried for more than a couple of hours.

+1 #! actually holds my record for longest distro without reinstall or switching - 4 weeks

Hey, I like this. Very slick. Very star Wars. ![]()
Anyone else?
I tried to work out all the different logo formats that might be needed.

some vomit below again.. x)
I also really like the second and third ones here. I think this is getting more away from that blocky feeling, very minimalist and polished. Especially #3.
I like the #! *after* the crunchbang, gives it more of an ... well.. exclamation-ness. ![]()

Plain vanilla.
