Topic: Openbox Menu

I know that the Openbox menu.xml is very configurable but what are some of the ways you all have configured yours.  I have read that you can add pipe menus to add time, weather and a few other things.  (Acually saw a screen shot of Sector11's menu with weather) After playing with conky and tint2 and having those pretty close to where I want them, I am going to start delving into the menu.
I will post a screen shot later of what I have so far.

Look forward to all the responses.

All the best,

Ian

Edit:  Here is my current screenshot with my current menu open.  Hope this sparks some interest.  wink

Re: Openbox Menu

Everthing about configurations will spark some interest big_smile @obmenu: The only things I have added (besides the app shortcuts) are a 'System Upgrade' entry (like the 9.04 version) and a 'System config' to edit sources.list and .bashrc - I used to have radio channels in a Media menu but removed them now that I use radiotray. Oh, and I also had "mpd prev/next" in the menu, but found it actually unneeded: keyboard shortcuts work quicker, and I use these keybinds on different DE/OS anyway.

Nothing right in the left brain. Nothing left in the right brain.

Re: Openbox Menu

i've recently gone through all the #! default apps and removed those i never use or for which is have a CLI-alternative etc. so that cleaned out my menu pretty well. i then made new categories. currently looks like this:

Run Program
------------------
Accessories > Catfish
                        > Archive Manager
                        > Gedit
                        > ...
Media             > Renoise
                        > Nicotine+
                        > VLC
                        > ...
Network        > Gftp
                       > Deluge
                       > Gufw
Office            > Abiword
                       > Gnumeric
                       > ePDFview
-----------------

Lock Screen

Re: Openbox Menu

This calls for a "Terminal Apps" menu like in the good-old 9.04 days: http://crunchbanglinux.org/wiki/applications/9.04.02 smile

Terminal Applications

    Vim editor
    Midnight Commander file manager
    rtorrent BitTorrent Client
    MOC music player
    Newsbeuter feed reader
    elinks web browser
    MUTT email client
    irssi IRC client
    naim chat client
    htop system monitor

Re: Openbox Menu

@machinebacon - Thanks for your replies.  You just made me think of something I need to add to my menu and that is htop.  I normally launch a seperate terminal and run it from there but having one click from the menu makes a lot more sense.  big_smile
And like you said, everything that is configurable sparks interest.  Seems like the more you configure, the more you need to configure.  big_smile big_smile

@rhowaldt - Your right, I like the way that the menu is so easily configurable to remove the initial stuff that is there after install and to build it to what you want to see.

I am interested in utilizing the menu for more then just a place to open up applications such as one click for current weather or 1 click to a particular iRC channel I may frequent.
