Topic: CrunchBang at SCALE 10X?

Hi, all --

I'm not sure if this is the right place for this, but how many CrunchBangers are going to SCALE 10X -- the Southern California Linux Expo -- in January 2012? If so, perhaps some of us can meet up. I'm also submitting a paper for a talk about "On Beyond Zenwalk," about the joys of using lesser known distros (and you can be sure a lot of the talk will be about CrunchBang).

Truth in advertising: I've been a volunteer at SCALE for the past three years, and I serve as publicity co-chair (because I work as a newspaper editor as a profession, but that's another story).

So will anyone else be there Jan. 20-22, 2012? For more info, here's the page:

Re: CrunchBang at SCALE 10X?

Going to try to make it...

Welcome to #!, BTW

Re: CrunchBang at SCALE 10X?

An update -- there are about 10 booths left for Southern California Linux Expo SCALE 10X and I think #! would qualify for a free one. I'm just wondering if there is any further interest in having a #! booth. I can help arrange to set up/take down the booth (a table, really), but I'm part of the expo's staff and I would not be able to put in any time at the booth/table. I would also be glad to produce some materials and discs to hand out, and I would invite anyone who's interested in this to help me.

Also, as a separate item I'll post, the call for papers just opened for Linux Fest Northwest, which is held in Bellingham, Washington, USA in late April. I wlil be submitting a paper -- the same talk I'll be giving at SCALE -- and I will have time to staff a #! booth there, if there is an interest to have one. Again, any folks who would like to join me are welcome.. As an aside, on the way to LFNW, I usually stop and talk about FOSS to a class or two at Oregon State University (home of the Oregon State University Open Source Lab), and I'd be glad to work #! into my conversation :-)

But back to the point: Is there any interest in having some exposure at these two events?

Re: CrunchBang at SCALE 10X?

Now they're down to three booths left. Gareth Greenaway and I just made an announcement in the #crunchbang IRC channel. If anyone is interested, you can e-mail me at larry-at-socallinuxexpo-dot-org

As for Linux Fest Northwest, I will be attending and I would welcome an opportunity to staff a table there. You can e-mail me at the above address if you might make it to that event.

Re: CrunchBang at SCALE 10X?

...must be nice to live so close to Silicon Valley...all the best conventions go on in your neck of the woods...

In my neck of the woods, the biggest annual things are the State Fair (yup, with all the livestock shows & "world's biggest rutabaga" roll ) in the fall and March Madness in the spring.  The necks are truly red here. neutral  Occasionally there's a Mac expo, but that barely registers on anyone's radar...even the Mac users...

Re: CrunchBang at SCALE 10X?

In a manner of speaking, yes. There are a lot of activities here in this area -- FOSS activities, too, but not as much as there used to be. Not complaining, but still. SCALE is 350 miles from here -- there must be something within 350 miles of you, no?

I'd love to see the world's biggest rutabaga, though.

Re: CrunchBang at SCALE 10X?

Well, I understand Red Hat's main offices are somewhere downtown, near the NCSU campus, so you'd think there would be Linux users piling out of every tiny clown car in town.

Re: CrunchBang at SCALE 10X?

Yeah, it's in Raleigh, somewhere. I've never been there, but they tell me it's nice. If you're in North Carolina, you're probably closer to SELF -- the South East Linux Fest in, um, Spartanburg, SC (I think) -- than I am to SCALE.
