Topic: 8-bit awesomeness

I found a really cool SNES style USB gamepad.  Since I bought it I finally beat Supertux for the first time ever, and I was inspired to do a bit of 8-bit graphics.

This is just a quick scene without much thought put into it with some of the pixel art open source mascots i've made.

I hope to continue working on this as well as my 1000s of other projects.  But I think I've got a good idea for a desktop theme :-D

You might find this interesting

'Multiple exclamation marks,' he went on, shaking his head, 'are a sure sign of a diseased mind.', {Eric}

Re: 8-bit awesomeness

I do find that interesting... i'll find it even more interesting when it's released.  If they can sell it for under 50 USD that'll be a real marketable item I think.

Re: 8-bit awesomeness

I cooked up a font to go with 8-bit style themes.  It's just my super tiny font doubled in size:

Re: 8-bit awesomeness

I could do a gnu.  I'll make all the individual svgs available on deviant art as well.  The link will appear here in the future.

Re: 8-bit awesomeness

@ninjaaron
I'm liking that font.  Maybe a bigger font size would help make it more readable.

Re: 8-bit awesomeness

I could give it a shot sometime later.

Anyway, what the heck is gnus?

Re: 8-bit awesomeness

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wildebeest

The wildebeest (plural wildebeest, wildebeests or wildebai), also called the gnu ( /ˈnuː/ noo or /ˈnjuː/ new)[1] is an antelope of the genus Connochaetes. It is a hooved (ungulate) mammal. Wildebeest is Dutch for "wild beast" or "wild cattle" in Afrikaans (beest = cattle), while Connochaetes derives from the Greek words konnos ("beard") and khaite ("flowing hair").[2] The name "gnu" originates from the Khoikhoi name for these animals, "gnou".

That paragraph explains TONS of linux/gnu/freesoftware stuff, it also supports the Neck Beard Movement.

Also, @Ninjaaaron:  I like the look of that font (increased size one)... but if I were to give you any feedback.  I'd say since it's big, you could open up the holes on the a's and e's and such.

Re: 8-bit awesomeness

Ah... it's plural.  I know what a gnu is (I mean, I know what it looks like and all...).  I thought it was "GNUS," an acronym for something else (it actually is, for GNUS Network User Services, a GNU news reader), but I couldn't figure out what that might have to do with "8-bit". artwork

@font suggestions:

This doing anything for anybody?
