Re: omns review of the new point release on Into the abyss
I always though blog posts are ultimate and final and every dispute ends in a war that takes down a couple of sites. Now I'm confused.

Thank you omns, for making that small edit to the bottom of your blog post and then totally removing said blog post so that this thread no longer makes any sense or can be read in context! You should have the courage of your convictions and stand by what you write, as I have previously said to you before.
You have been a fantastic advocate for CrunchBang and a complete asset to the project as a moderator, so I am sorry to see you go like this. I wish you the best for any future endeavours. ![]()
Yeah..I was looking forward to reading it.
@bobobex, I'm well aware that the way I manage my online content is not perfect but taking into account your words of advice I've edited the original article and re-published it here http://omnsandlinux.blogspot.com/2011/1 hbang.html
Thank you for the kind words re my time here ![]()

Now I'm confused.
Now I'm not confused anymore. The interwebz has come full circle.

Honestly, no idea what's wrong with the review.
I would be interested what made the OB session feel laggy, or if problems are buried somewhere else. And the thing about backports, well - all or nothing, I don't like this half-hearted solutions like bpo, so: agree
And the line "I wouldn't be comfortable recommending this release to others unless they were very comfortable with Debian" applies to all distributions, and basically depend on the personal interest in troubleshooting, reading, learning - and I don't see anything wrong with the statement. Can we comfortably recommend Arch, Ubuntu, Slackware? For somebody who has never used Linux, and is simply nor interested in computers, I wouldn't recommend Linux ![]()

Well played ![]()
good job for listening to bobobex omns. it is your opinion and that is the whole purpose of a blog, to write how you feel about it. keep that review online, i don't think it is bad at all. you wanna read a bad review of #!? http://www.dedoimedo.com/computers/crun atler.html
You write
All these positives aside I must admit I’ve had a few issues with this release. Number one (and it is probably hardware related) is the Openbox session just feels clunky to me on my netbook. It made little difference if compositing was enabled or not but I was experiencing very minor but annoying lags in apps opening and in general things just didn’t feel as smooth as I had experienced with past releases
In Arch we are using OB 3.5 for some months already with its nice menu icon support.
More info about that last: http://bbs.archbang.org/viewtopic.php?pid=5003#p5003
I haven't noticed any deterioration of OB behaviour at all in my Arch set up. It is fast as ever.
I know it's interesting and stuff, but I have the feeling we should give this one a rest. It seems like there has been a certain tension going way beyond the article.
I would recommend to the Mods that are that this thread should now be closed since the original Blog post is now:
This blog is open to invited readers only
and can no longer be accessed
