A really short guide to getting Debian Xfce on your computer
Download the Debian netinst http://www.debian.org/distrib/netinst
Burn to disk.
If install fails pick last menu option then <click> Enter
Follow instructions until tasksel then choose common system utilities or words to that effect for a minimal install, otherwise choose notebook or desktop according to your need
When system reboots do [as superuser] in terminal
apt-get update
apt-get install iceweasel gdm xfce4 xfce4-terminal dmz-cursor-theme network-manager-gnome
NOTES
The options in apt-get install are my personal preferences, pick and choose your own, but if you overdo it here you'll loose your minimalism.
Once installed, up and running, you can add other apps, like synaptic, if you use it. If you add it in the initial apt-get install it will drag in a mess of GNOME dependencies but for some reason adding it later doesn't do this. As much.
If you want to add anything from the #! repos now's the time to do it deb http://packages.crunchbanglinux.org/statler statler main
I guess that's it.
EDIT -- I'll probably forget I wrote this so don't expect me to be available to answer questions about it. Don't worry -- your memory will start to fade soon enough.

My formula for living is quite simple. I get up in the morning and I go to bed at night. In between, I occupy myself as best I can.
