Wow, you surely got ambition! There have been projects like this before that never really pulled of, so let's hope you can gather enough people to finally do this.

OTOH, you simply cannot provide every piece of information / include every single piece of hardware , just because there's so many available. Conclusion? Don't get too ambitious! Perhaps it would be better to list those hardware parts that do not work, such as Broadcom chips and so on.

I wasen't looking to create an all ever ending list of every single piece of hardware out there, but it would be a feature on site that people could submit there setups and state what works and what doesn't, it would be better than nothing and at least we would be building a community contribution?

I hope I can pull it off and get others from other Distro's to get involved too!!! I've got to say this community is by far the best at getting involved so far!

Thanks again!

I'll start up a blog soon so everybody can follow progress!

Re: Looking for some support!

i doubt you should try and set up a real community there though. i think it would be best for people to pick a distro and ask their questions inside that community, or use a great forum like Linuxquestions for that. but that is just my opinion.

also, i was wondering, are you trying to keep the text and information minimal or something? because i've checked the entire site and the information does not go into much topics. i'd either like to see more explanation, or more links to explanations on other sites. right now, it all reads a bit like 'hey, Linux is really great, you should try it! here's some reasons why! now go try it, it is really great!'... don't get me wrong, i like the enthusiasm, but it wouldn't be something that i'd be convinced by when i considered moving to Linux. i'd need more 'real' stuff or something.

wondering what others think about this. i might be wrong.

This is just 'filler' content for the design. I've not began putting real information into the site just yet, that's why I've come looking for community support so we can begin building the content into the site, the site is still in design phase and not fully complete.

Not at all, I usually add some kind of content when I'm designing a site from scratch so I can see what it will look like when finished, we'll all be using this as a base to begin building better content, so I'll defiantly be making the changes as  they are all valid comments!

But I'll be opening up each part as 'Editable' by members of the community anyway once the design and development is complete, so all the content can be accurate and impressive ready for launch!

Thanks again!

^ i think when people have good ideas it should be very possible to have them write it even though they may not master the English language so well, and then let those writings be reviewed for language by someone else. that way everyone can contribute no matter the language level.

Yep, that's exactly right, don't worry about language barriers!

Re: Looking for some support!

The choose-linux site seems extremely overreaching. I think It's not going to be popular unless it's good at something in particular. Even this site is too big since there's different versions of #!, (32bit/64bit, OB/XFCE and encrypted), and things like recommended programs rarely work well or at all on all those permutations of the install.

I wish there was an a (good) distro that forced you to encrypt your disk with the OS on it since that's the most important distinction. More important than 32 vs 64 bit, distro or DE it is running, maybe even combined.

I don't feel we're overreaching as such, we're looking at giving people a view at more than one Distro, so people can get a jist of what Linux is and make a choice which is the right one, we're more of an informative site than a site aimed at reaching a community. We're not looking to be the next DistroWatch, but maybe a place people can go to in order to introduce people to Linux.

Sounds like an awesome project!

The #! community rocks, I am sure they will support the endeavour

I will get a link up ASAP and give some thought to what else I can
do to help. Again, thank you for your support, I really appreciate it

The site has a long way to go before it's going to be great and with good community input I feel we could really shape it into a site that's productive, useful and informative.

I do appreciate everybody's feedback.

Re: Looking for some support!

@Weeking: I do not know about your encryption obsession but #! has it because it is a part of his big brother Debian, and I do not see nothing special about encryption as other distros offer the same, maybe not all.

Re: Looking for some support!

^^ i always love how enthusiastic corenominal is about everything.

Re: Looking for some support!

You, my good sir, are very ambitious. That isn't necessarily bad, but may lead to a lot of frustration.
