Topic: Web Search - CrunchBang

Hi

I really like the style of the customized web search (i' m referring to this  http://crunchbang.org/start). I noticed that it returns different results from the original www.google.com. I am wondering what is the difference between these two.

One possible explanation about the different results could be the fact that i' m logged to my google account when searching with google.com, whereas with crunchbang.org/start i' m not. But then again when i log out nothing changes.

Besides the cool black theme advantage of #! web search over the original google.com (white background really hurts my eyes) i think that the page is an income source for the project too, right?

I tried blackle.com but it's too black wink. Is there a convenient way to change the original google.com's background to something darker?

Hello.  Just an FYI.  The link you posted  http://crunchbang.org/start).  doesn't work because of the

at the end.  Just thought you ought to know -- fixing it would help make your post more understandable.   wink

Apparently the site code that puts [ url ] [ /url ] around links automatically, perceived ")." part of the url.

Thank you for the correction, dubois.

You could try the "Stylish" extension. It's available for Firefox/Iceweasel and for Chrome/Chromium.

I like using the Turn off the light extension of Chrome https://chrome.google.com/webstore/deta … plfjjepjdn

Also in igoogle, if you look at the bottom left, you can change the background image.

Although i knew stylish before, it never passed my mind to use it. This extension seems an elegant solution. Thanks.

I tried both solutions and i didn't like the results.

With Turn off light, all the page darkens whereas i want to change only the background. Also you can't click on the site before you turn of the extension.

The change background thingy does not solve the problem because once you hit search, the background becomes white again. I don't know if there is an option to make it permanent.

Anyways, since i use iceweasel 8 after i installed the updated #! images, i' ll look into stylish since it is an elegant and generic (i' ll use it for other sites too) solution.
