Re: Razor-qt: New Qt based lightweight desktop environment (minus WM)

Everything installed to /usr/local/lib instead of /usr/lib. I just copied and pasted everything over and it works now. I probably should have uninstalled, modified the makefile, and reinstalled, but I took an arrow to the knee. I'll mess around with this DE tomorrow, it looks promising!

Re: Razor-qt: New Qt based lightweight desktop environment (minus WM)

There's not a whole lot of settings... but so far I've got one point of high praise.

The autostart applications dialog DEFAULTS to /bin/ to add new programs.  I've NEVER seen a distro do this but I think it's a really really good default to have in this case anyway.  Do you know how long it took me of using linux to find out most of the programs are in /bin/ or /sbin/ or the like?  Years...

Re: Razor-qt: New Qt based lightweight desktop environment (minus WM)

I wonder whether am I the only one that has found razor qt to be extremely sluggish in compare with plain openbox. It takes like 2 seconds for it to bring up the right click menu.

The right click menu was a bit sluggish, but the panel menu was pretty snappy for me.

Re: Razor-qt: New Qt based lightweight desktop environment (minus WM)

I cant seem to get desktop icons or the clock up.  Not sure why.

(Sounds like a "that's what she said joke")

Right clicking and adding them to the desktop does not work?  I can remove them and re add them

Re: Razor-qt: New Qt based lightweight desktop environment (minus WM)

from the add widgets menu if i click add clock, the screen flashes white and pauses for a moment (presumably reloading) and then comes back as it was before.

Re: Razor-qt: New Qt based lightweight desktop environment (minus WM)

Were they there from the start and did you removed them?  Mine were always there...  Curious ... roll

Re: Razor-qt: New Qt based lightweight desktop environment (minus WM)

Never had them... Same thing happens with the other widgets on the list.

On another note, anyone notice this... Zero Install menu in the menus?

Re: Razor-qt: New Qt based lightweight desktop environment (minus WM)

Interesting..  I wonder if you installed everything?  Perhaps you can check the error log?

I did remove the icon widget and readded it...  It is now so small it only shows one icon and I see no way to resize it

And on your second note, I do not have that in my menu system...

Re: Razor-qt: New Qt based lightweight desktop environment (minus WM)

Edit to above.. I did find how to resize

Re: Razor-qt: New Qt based lightweight desktop environment (minus WM)

Good suggestion, looky what I found!  libdesktop-razor is a logical place for this segfault to be occurring, though why is beyond me... I guess I could try to submit a bug report.

Re: Razor-qt: New Qt based lightweight desktop environment (minus WM)

I've uploaded an archive of the razor_0.40 debs for wheezy here & 0.41 here

Requires openbox or fluxbox or metacity

Running under fluxbox:

Thanks for the packages but after downloading I noticed the debs were for wheezy.  I am running the new point release so it will not work for me at the moment.  I tried the ubuntu rescue remix razor-qt desktop and it looks very interesting.

Re: Razor-qt: New Qt based lightweight desktop environment (minus WM)

@orion: I know, I am almost a month late for answering your zero-install thingy:

Do you have any ROX stuff (rox filer, rox term and etc.) installed in your system(?),  it is something that comes  together with those thingies.

Re: Razor-qt: New Qt based lightweight desktop environment (minus WM)

I'm testing this on Antix which comes with Rox & I don't have any "zero install" menu entry.

Has anyone managed to get conky working with a transparent background ? With "own_window_type" set to "desktop" conky works but shows the original blue background & not the current wallpaper.

*** Edit - replacing SLIM with LightDM & using Compiz as the WM fixed conky - it now runs transparently with "own_window_type" set to override. In OpenBox it will only run set to "normal" ***

Re: Razor-qt: New Qt based lightweight desktop environment (minus WM)

It's simpler to build now:

Grab the latest source & in the source tree under /distr/deb:

./makeDeb.sh -r wheezy #or squeeze

The 0.4.1 release doesn't compile on Debian but the latest git has been fixed & does.
Debs will be under ~/{razorqt}_0.x.y

after a few minutes of it working i get the following:

i don't know what that means, can anyone help?

Re: Razor-qt: New Qt based lightweight desktop environment (minus WM)

Have you got libpolkit-qt-1-dev installed ?

It's supposed to be an optional component but the build script appears to expect it.

It's also better to use the latest zip from github rather than the 0.41 release (which didn't build for me on Testing)

Re: Razor-qt: New Qt based lightweight desktop environment (minus WM)

yeah libpolkit-qt-1-dev is installed.  i had installed the list of dependencies that the makeDeb script needs:

sudo apt-get install cmake libqt4-dev libmagic-dev libudev-dev libpolkit-agent-1-dev libpolkit-qt-1-dev

but i'm set up not to install recommended packages by default.  could any of their respective recommended/suggested packages be needed?

also btw i'm running stable

./makeDeb.sh -r squeeze

Re: Razor-qt: New Qt based lightweight desktop environment (minus WM)

libmagic-dev recommends "file" which I have installed on my system.

I just built debs from the latest zip on github ok.
