Topic: tint2 with system tray

For anyone who is not aware, the tint2 developer has recently introduced a system tray. This is fantastic news and I would encourage everyone who is interested to give it a try and help by reporting bugs to the project on Google Code.

The new system tray still needs work, but it is very encouraging to see this new development. Personally, I think tint2 is by far the most promising taskbar/panel project for use with Openbox and I would like to have it installed by default in future releases. Any help you can provide to accomplish this would be greatly appreciated.

There are some easy to install deb files available from the CrunchBangers PPA:

Again, I think it would be great if the CrunchBang community could really get behind this project. So, please check for existing/known issues and report your bugs: http://code.google.com/p/tint2/issues/list

Hmm, needs a bit of work with the way it handles transparent  backgrounds but a nice development smile

Started testing — Tint2 is an "old" acquaintance to me from my ante-#! days, but systemtray is indeed a nice addition. In the scrot below, you can see an almost-default look. EDIT: On the right, after a little customization (but just a tiny little bit: I like the #! looks so much I try to stay loyal to the smokey dark overall theme).

i really enjoy using tint2
the only bug i notice is , as omns said, the transparency feature. but you can easily solve this by putting

(sleep 30s && openbox --restart) &

in your autostart.sh

and +1 to add tint2 in #! by default smile

The first tiny bug? The system tray icons unexpectedly transformed themselves into something a little bit ugly:

In the big screenshots above, my post # 5 (or, more literally, in the big screenshots opened via the thumbnails above), you can see how they should look. As should be expected, restarting the panel restores the good looks.

corenominal : well, I think this neatly sidesteps the 64 bit lxpanel not rendering icons in the taskbar. Just installed this new tint2 and it's working, and looking, quite nice. Thanks for the pointer in this direction!

Configuring Tint2 can be fun. I can't resist the temptation to show off, here too, an example of a non-#! Openbox  desktop with Tint2 (w/o system tray), with a kitschy wallpaper, self-made from stolen goods (all of them, except fonts, found via Creative Commons search, however), and an idiotic Conky setup:

Well, so much for working on netwmpager.
Now that tint2 has a tray, I no longer need trayer, and having netwmpager when I can just split the displays in tint2 seems foolish.

+1 when it becomes default in #! smile

All in an effort to learn...

Is there any way to get multiple rows of elements in tint2? I'd like my tint2 panel to fit in a 100x200'ish piece of desktop estate, so a "one row" panel isn't really an option.

The system tray bug seems to be fixed now, with r114. You can get it via Killeroid's PPA. Nice!!

When will the tint2 package be updated in the CrunchbangLinux repo? It's still revision 70 and it has the bug with the non-transparent icons. Please update the package to at least r114 as stated above, thanks.
