Re: Google Hangout - Thursday 29th December
OK, for those who haven't looked it up:
Sciatica is any inflammation or impingement of the sciatic nerve bundle, which is responsible for sending signals to muscles in the leg from the motor cortex (via the cerebellum) and relaying sensory information from the leg back to the somatic sensory cortex. This inflammation or impingement can have any of several causes, from muscle inflammation to bacterial infection to a slipped disc, and symptoms can range from a mild twinge to debilitating shooting pain down the leg.
This concludes our physiology lesson for the day. We now return you to your regularly scheduled thread.
