Topic: [SOLVED]Download Manager for CrunchBang?

Does anyone know a good download manager for #!?

I'm a huge fan of IDM on Windows, not so enthralled with JDownloader.

Any and all suggestions will be welcome, although my preferrence is towards GUI apps rather than command line ones, being a noob.

Thanks,

Re: [SOLVED]Download Manager for CrunchBang?

I tried it out and it seems to lack functionality for anything but filehosting sites. I need to download plain direct links, rather filehost ones.

Maybe FatRat...

sudo apt-get install fatrat

Re: [SOLVED]Download Manager for CrunchBang?

Unfortunately I haven't came across a download manager that matches JDownloader on Linux. I was also an IDM user on Windows, so I was in the same boat when switching to Linux. If you find anything that even matches JD then please let me know. If it wasn't written in Java then I would have no complaints with it.

Re: [SOLVED]Download Manager for CrunchBang?

I recommend freerapid as mentioned by my Download manager recommendation thread.

Re: [SOLVED]Download Manager for CrunchBang?

found this, a little bit old, but maybe worth a read:

#!, all else is but a shadow!

Re: [SOLVED]Download Manager for CrunchBang?

I highly recommend axel - it is a speed demon.

apt-get install axel

This one looks half way decent actually(compared to the other multi-hoster ones I've tried). It's way lighter and faster than JD on my computer, it supports many file hosters, and looks to be well supported.

Thanks, sunfizz. I'll give this one a try for a little while and see how it goes. Hopefully this will end up being a replacement for JD.

Re: [SOLVED]Download Manager for CrunchBang?

FatRat works for direct links but the GUI is quite clunky for my needs.

I'll give axel a go next.

edit- Axel seems to be terminal-based, and doesn't download files with spaces in the filename properly.

edit2- Found one called steadyflow which is perfect for my needs.

If you use Firefox/Iceweasel, download the DownThemAll extension. Problem solved! big_smile

I did try it, but I found it quite clunky, and much of the reason I prefer to use a download manager is that I can keep downloading things with FF closed, or if FF crashes.

I never knew about that,

I think I will give steadyflow a try, too. Cheers.

Edit: Actually I just checked it out, it is GUI. I am on my GUI detox at the moment...  smile

Well I just gave this one a shot with some RS links and it looks like Freerapid doesn't have an unrar feature(unless I'm being blind which is quite possible). And this is something I've become spoiled with when it comes to JDownloader and something I have to have in a downloader manager when I download from file hosters. It's nice to add the links, set the password, and have everything done for me when I come back to my computer.

Axel is pretty cool though for a regular download manager, especially since it's Cli. I'll probably start using that when I'm not downloading from file hosters. But when it does comes to file hosters, unfortunately it still looks like JD is the "best". At least the most feature full and supported.

Re: [SOLVED]Download Manager for CrunchBang?

At the moment I'm in love with pyLoad http://pyload.org/

It can be controlled with CLI, GUI and Web Interfaces

That's odd, to be honest. I couldn't get it run through Alt+F2/'Axel', only through typing 'axel' in terminal, which would give me a terminal interface, and download things like wget does.

I definitely recommend SteadyFlow if you're only after something basic, like me. It sits very neatly in my system tray, gives tooltips, integrates with clipboard etc.
