Topic: Recommendation for a SSD
Can someone recommend to me a SSD that would work well in a laptop that is about 2-3 years old? I have a Budget of $100 USD and it would need to be 2.5'
Thanks

For about $110 there are a few 32 gb SSDs on eBay
SSD are not inexpensive.
You may have better luck finding a Seagate Momentus XT, the first generation version is likely to go on clearance soon, but with hard drives in low supply do not expect prices to drop as much as usual.
I own three SSDs with sandforce controllers in them, one mushkin and the other two ocz, and they all work great. The mushkin one has been used heavily for over six moths now and is still trucking along. The two ocz drives haven't been abused nearly as much but they're both extremely similar so I imagine they won't fair any differently. Looking at newegg right now, the best deal in your price range IMO is this 60 GB vertex III. It's only 60 gigs but if you know your way around a minimal linux install it's not that hard to make due with.

The HD I was using in my Laptop was only a 60 GB as it was so that is fine. I think I am going to go with that one, Thanks mynis01 ![]()
Looking on newegg I found this also

A 60 gb OCZ SSD
There are a few smaller available for less, but they would be best for a desktop computer with a larger spinning hard drive.

I don't know much about them, but these guys have some not-bad selection too...
I own a Crucial M4, absolutely happy with it. Personally, I would not recommend OCZ, had a lot of troubles with it.
One more OCZ agility 3 user, and quite happy with it...
It s about 7 months old and gone through plenty wipe offs but still working perfectly....
Before that I had an Adata S396, that died 2 months after buying it....
It's not a very large SSD (16GB), and it's an earlier one, but IIRC the drive in my netbook is a Crucial. Lots of reformats & clean installs (all of them either because I made #! go CrunchBang or just "for the LULz"), never any drive related issues.
May I please point out that due to recent flooding in Taiwan, the prices of all hard drives are goin' to skyrocket (in fact might already have done).
As for recommending drives themselves, I can't be of any help. Sorry.
Hi
What would you choose now:
Samsung 830 256GB or Crucial M4 256GB ??
Crucial M4.
Should I worry about a bug "5000hours" in Crucial's firmware?
