Topic: Distro Watch listing......

As of posting this (12th Jan 2012), the page hit ranking for #! on DistroWatch has surpassed that of Knoppix!!!

Not sure how big of a deal this is, but I thought it was worth a mention at least.

Even though it's rankin' has gone down this month, I still think this is pretty impressive. Considering how important Knoppix has been for Linux and the amount of derivatives there are.

Best ranking for #! were around no 20 sometime last year I think. Also read :

#!, all else is but a shadow!

Re: Distro Watch listing......

Bear in mind that DistroWatch rankings "show the number of times a distribution page on DistroWatch.com was accessed each day, nothing more." So arguably it's not a good indicator of people actually using a distro (i.e., actual downloads), but rather how many times the distro's page is visited.

Ahhhh, well, this isn't such great news then. :-\

But, as we move up again, we'll get more popularity just by bein' closer to the top, right? That's how you humans work, isn't it?

This is pretty excitin' stuff, glancing over that link you gave me, I mean.

I was always in fringe clics in high school; popularity contests never really mattered much to me.  Just sayin'.  We all know Statler will never be Homecoming Queen.

Watch out Red Hat, here comes #!

Re: Distro Watch listing......

Well, it's not bad news -- the rankings show people are visiting the site and people may end up leaving with a copy of #! One of the better indications of how #! is doing is on this forum: The introductions and the "Why Do You Use CrunchBang?" threads specifically.

One of the more interesting thing is to watch the yo-yo effect when a distro like Ubuntu or Fedora is released (or any distro released on a six-month cycle) -- they'll shoot to the top at the list and then settle down as time goes on.

But has a real nice personality.  wink
