Topic: Greetings from a disgruntled Ubuntu user
I sincerely hope I'm not too grumpy, opinionated and pessimistic for this forum.
Here's a detailed explanation as to how I arrived here: http://is.gd/Adq6xy
And here's a bit about me if anyone's curious:
Born & raised in upstate New York, I attended Syracuse University in the school of Visual & Performing Arts, majoring in Metalsmithing. Upon completing school, instead of becoming a jeweler or some other form of metalsmithing professional, I moved to New Orleans and began pursuing a career in the IT field, specializing in personal computer diagnostics and repair.
While in New Orleans I met my beautiful future wife and mother of four beautiful daughters, and upon her urging became a tour guide for the famous Haunted History Tours, Inc. of New Orleans. Somehow I became comfortable with communicating with large audiences, despite my acute stage fright.
My wife and I were married on December 11th, 2000 and lived together in New Orleans until September, 2005. We were forced to evacuate the flooded city with our two daughters while my wife was pregnant with our third, during the aftermath immediately following Hurricane Katrina. This experience has brought me to a new level of understanding about the meaning of life and what is truly important, and I am forever grateful that my family survived the disaster relatively unscathed.
I currently live with my family in the middle of nowhere (west central Ohio), and try to keep myself sane by fiddling with Drupal website development, Ubuntu LAMP server administration, playing video games on my custom computer and laptop, and I am starting to collect and teach myself how to repair classic arcade game systems. My arcade collection currently includes Pole Position, Moon Patrol, Invasion: The Abductors and Soul Calibur III. I presently work full time in the IT field as a support consultant and lead technician.
