Topic: Web comics!!!

Well, for those of you whom wouldn't of assumed....

A "web comic" is basically like a comic book that would be printed to you and sold for your enjoyment. The only difference is, it's on the "web". Think of Web-Mail!! It's like that, only instead of personal letters that are given specifically to you, it's more like a comic book - But on the internet!!!

I read a fair few of these, usually they're pretty funny. So, I'm goin' to list some in the post below (as and when they come to come to me), and try and say a little about each comic in the hopes that you'll click and find amusement.

Also, I'm aware that we've got a topic for internet awesome. But I believe web comics is an area of awesome big enough to deserve their own thread.

If this is out of line, just delete this and I'll understand, okay?

If I make people laugh, that makes me pleasant, right?

What if I make people laugh about unpleasant things?

A webcomic of romance, sarcasm, math, and language.

This is the biggest web comic on the internet!! This author actually quit NASA to make these comics. Seriously.

His comics (as suggested) have a lot to do with the science topic of that day, or something weird in general.

Just so you know, the "Alt Text" of the comic itself (when you mouse over) is usually part of the joke, or even the punch-line itself. Be sure you expose such text!!

http://www.smbc-comics.com/
Saturday Morning Breakfast Cereal.

This comic updates every day, and is meant to only be one panel. He makes jokes about religion, comic book characters, science, social situations - Pretty much everything!!

He has a red button under most of his comics (some times not there in his older stuff). If you put your mouse over it, you'll get an extra panel of funny. ^_^

http://basicinstructions.net/
The color of this comic always reminds me of #!, and thus reminds me of your guys!!! : D

He takes pictures of the people he features in the comics, and then draws around them, or over them, whatever!! Apparently, it's much harder to do that way.

This comic is about instructing people on how to do (or not do) specific things. "How to Make Fun of the Opposite Sex" is a good example. They're generally silly, but also informative. The main character, Scott features himself in the comics (bald guy, goatee with black shirt). Often the instructions he offers are not undertaken in the correct manner (often too literally). Must admit this one is kind of hard to explain.

4 panels of genius!! Check it out!! : D

http://http://http://cad-comic.com
This is a comic about 2 avid gamers and their lives (it gets pretty crazy at times), there's also some random ones about specific games thrown in.

It's got a good story, though if you'd want to read through the archive, then skip over the game-related ones, because they're rather dated.

http://theoatmeal.com
The Oatmeal is a graphic desinger and web desinger. Though now earns a living off comic sillyness.

Most of these are nonsensical instructions and lists of "facts" for things and "reasons" on why thnigs are better (or worse) then other things. He also draws comics about computer-related stuff, and a fair amount on proper use of the English language.

http://pbfcomics.com/
The Perry Bible Fellowship, it's a nicely drawn comic about unrelated events featuring situations with humerous outcomes (this one is kind of hard to explain).

The site has a really simple layout, and I strongly suggest you take a gander. ^_^

http://www.explosm.net
Cyanide & Happiness is a comic about all manner of gruesome things, regularly featuring death, rape, child-molestation, pretty much everything. Certainly worth the while if you're morbid or a big twisted. XD

http://www.anticscomic.com/
Antics is about 2 guys and their random antics. Created by a New Zealander with a pretty warped mind!! These are really weird and sordid (like a lot of others on here). But isn't such a charactaristic with the contrast of the silliness of the characters themselves only making it funnier?

http://www.freesoftwaremagazine.com/art … athedral_1

The fact that this is true makes it more funny. XD

http://thedoghousediaries.com/
The Dog House Diaries is more randomness about the interactions of human beings.

Not properly looked through this one to be honest, but keeps well with the theme of the rest of these sites.

http://www.spaceavalanche.com/
Space Avalanche is a collection of bright comics unrelated to each other. Many from pop-culture. Very funny.

VERY basic web site. o_O

http://www.questionablecontent.net/
Questionable Content is a "slice of life" comic about some "indie" guys and their complicated romantic entanglments. A lot of their humor is based on the characters' personalities. So you have to read a few before it gets really funny.

http://www.pvponline.com/
Player vs player is a comic about the employees of a magazine company. It's quite a nerdy comic with jokes about technology, games and other stuff like relationships.

They've even got their own animates series!!

http://www.mspaintadventures.com
Homestuck.... I could go on forever about this one, but all I'll do is PROMISE you, it gets interesting after a while. Seriously. It looks like crap now, but it DOES get better.

Do they have to be good? If not

Rin: I won’t say ‘See you tomorrow’ because that would be like predicting the future, and I’m pretty sure I can’t do that.

Re: Web comics!!!

xkcd.com -- "sudo make me a sandwich" (or "correct horse battery staple") -- and theoatmeal.com -- funny and educational.

Re: Web comics!!!

Yaaayy!! I'm glad this looks as if it's goin' to go somewhere.

CAD and theoatmeal are 2 sites I was goin' to add when I was feelin' less lazy (along with Antics and C+H). I've also got a few more in mind, but it's 5:16 now and I don't know why I'm even on the internet. o _ o

But yeah, thanks for the suggestions!!

@MrPeachy: I'm yet to hear of your suggestion, but I'll certainly give it a go!!! : D

Re: Web comics!!!

Aha!!! Yeah, that one's suggested by oatmeal, right?

Is that what you meant by your "and the rest" comment?

Yeah, I'll edit the second post on here in the morning. I think it's time I closed my eyes for a few hours.

"Bands I Useta Like" by Mike the Pod.

If you are into music, you will like these. These are my favorite. Everyone here will see a band they know in the list.

After you click the link, look in the menu on the left for "Bands I Useta Like". (click)

Updated the second post: Jan 22, 2012.

@Bob E

Sorry, but I couldn't navigate that page so well. I'll keep on mulling over it though, it seemed pretty cool (just bad design).

Anyways, every other suggestion is up on the list now (with a few more of my own).

Hope you enjoy. ^_^

Re: Web comics!!!

Not a web comic per se, but jumping off from the "Man Dressed as a Bat":

@VastOne:  My favorite circumlocution of this is "Nocturnal Echo-Locating Flying Mammal Man" (from MythBuster Adam Savage, who seems to enjoy taking copyrighted expression avoidance to the logical extreme).  I suppose that could be further circumloquated to "Man Dressed as a Nocturnal Echo-Locating Flying Mammal"...

while ( ! ( succeed = try() ) );

Re: Web comics!!!

^ ^ ^

You're ABSOLUTELY right!!!

We should make a comic based on the homo-erotic adventures of the Mythbusters team!!! That would be totally kick-ass!! (And OTHER things to do with the ass, as well!!).

Re: Web comics!!!

@Bob E: thanks for that, some of those were really nice, and great drawings overall
