Topic: [SOLVED] Terminator Transparency in Awesome

Hi all,

Anyone have any idea why I can't get my terminal actually transparent in Awesome WM?  I have it set to transparent in the terminator config file, using terminator in my rc.lua (duh...), have used the right click preferences menu set to high transparency, and it shows up as transparent on the Openbox side.  Awesome just gives me a solid black background.  Not Awesome... or at least not what I want.

It is a fresh(ish) install of both #! and Awesome, but the same rc.lua I've had for some time.  It worked before, but not now...
I think that's all the info I have unless I can provide any more not mentioned. Okay, the only differences between my setup now and then is 1)no Slim login, just '.xinitrc', and 2)different wallpaper.  Still, works in Openbox.

Any takers?

Are you using xcomposite or cairo composite manager? You need them to get the terminal transparent. That is what I did for i3. Not sure about awesome, but it should be similar.

Genius!  It was an issue with awsetbg, display wasn't setting my background correctly.  It's a small issue to some, but it just didn't feel like my machine.  I have some Doritos (TM) chips and an A&W Root Beer (TM) for you!  big_smile  That 'awsetbg -i' command is great.  Thanks so much.
