Topic: Cant boot from usb netbook?

When i try to boot my netbook from a live usb stick that ive made (i have tried with many different programs with many different distros) it never ends up going past a screen that says "syslinux 4.04 EDD 2011-04-18 then some copyright info... it just hangs there... any help??

I could of sworn this was all working fine a couple months ago when i was testing some new distro out, i can also install windows just fine from usb... for some reason this is just hanging at the copyright screen?

My Netbook is the Acer Aspire One AO722-0473

Re: Cant boot from usb netbook?

anyone? ive tried with the latest release of crunchbang and get the same thing?

Re: Cant boot from usb netbook?

Probably pointless ... Am not familiar with that netbook, not so much interested in live gnu/nix installs atm either. Think it's kewl all the stuff opensource devs can do though. When someone says I've tried many progs, done this n that. Doesn't at all help me thinks. With that outta the way, from dumping too much time on a couple distro forums have kept seeing pendrivelinux pop up over n over. Link 2 site.

If you've already tried it and are sure you did everything right ... then dunno. Oops, forgot another kinda related piece of opensource goodness ya might look over ... PLop, supposed to let people boot from usb, even if their bios doesn't support it. Never used either pendriveetc or PLop yet. So o course sayin don't know if it'll work out for your situation or ....

Nope o course thought of more babble, who know ... somebody may get use or whatever. If you're sure it worked before and has stopped, perhaps summin you did ? Dig around in bios or reset them. Or if feeling adventurous update/flash bios if any updates are available for that sys ? Ok now good and done. lol

Some common cbiz abbreviations. This will save me time and yet @ same time tell folks what the babble is supposed to mean.

Vll ! = ( Viva la gnu/Linux !)    Vl#!! = ( Viva la #! !)    Last but not least, UD ... OD ! = ( Use Debian ... or die !) tongue

Re: Cant boot from usb netbook?

Had to post here CB because plop is awesome,   my Dell cant boot from a usb, old bios, but I use plop religiously, easy to install (just add it to 40_custom) and BAM, there it is, booting from a USB, no problems.   The documention is good too, for grub or grub2

Re: Cant boot from usb netbook?

I used UNetbootin from my Mint (Ubuntu) system to create a bootable USB #! from the ISO. Worked fine on my Acer AO532h Netbook.

I've run into that exact issue. it's a problem with the way the bootloader is read, and I'm guessing you used unetbootin? what you will need to do is simple, just follow the instructions in this link http://crunchbanglinux.org/wiki/statler … stallation and everything should go smoothly.
