Topic: NFL Final 4 predictions

Down to the final four as both the NFC and AFC are set for their conference championships..

In the AFC, the New England Patriots will play the Baltimore Ravens in a clash of the best offense against the best defense ..

In the NFC, the surging New York Giants will face off against the upstart San Francisco 49'ers in a game that can be a slugfest on either side of the ball

Jim and John Harbaugh could be the first brothers to face each other as coaches if John's Ravens can beat Brady's Patriots and if Jim's 49'ers can beat the pesky Giants.

Or we could have a repeat of the 2008 Super Bowl where Eli Manning threw an impossible pass that was caught with a face mask that ended Brady's and the Patriots quest for perfection.

I predict New England will beat the Ravens 27-13 and that the 49'ers will beat New York 27-17

It has been an incredible season with 4 great teams set for the final games...

Chime in!

Re: NFL Final 4 predictions

OK. Sunday was a sad day for me. sad It would have been cool to see my Packers make it back to the Superbowl again this season. Oh well...

Since I'm neutral on 3 of the 4 teams left, I'd like to see it come down to SF and Baltimore at XLVI.  My gut tells me NE and NY, with NE winning.

Re: NFL Final 4 predictions

I live near San Francisco, so by geography I'm a 49ers fan (I grew up in Miami as a Dolphins fan, so that would explain why I'm not terribly enthusiastic about the 49ers). They had a great season this year, and it would be great to see them go to the Super Bowl again.  Conversely, I had Tom Brady and Ron Gronkowski on my fantasy football team and they cleaned up for me, so I have an affinity for the Pats. I attended the University of Miami, and so did Ray Lewis and Ed Reed of Baltimore. I dated a girl when I was in college (with whom I am still in contact) who is a New York Giants season ticket holder.

So I'm pretty conflicted here.

I like the Patriots to go all the way, but like Bob E, I thought the Packers would go further. I've always liked Cal alum Aaron Rodgers, and despite the last game, I *still* think the 49ers should have drafted him over Alex Smith.

Re: NFL Final 4 predictions

if the san fran defense doesn't produce turnovers i don't think they can win it all... i hope they don't who dat!

Re: NFL Final 4 predictions

This weekend was definitely one for upsets. I know that the 49ers have one of the highest ranked defense, plus they were at home, but I thought for sure the Saints would be able to pull it off. And eventhough I'm a die hard Bears fan, I've also become a fan of Brees. So I wanted to them go all the way(after Cutler got hurt I knew the Bears had no chance of making it). But it's not like the game was just given to San Fran. Smith and that offense put up a fantasic fight.

And the Packers. All I can say is that they deserved to lose that game considered how they played. And they didn't just lose, they got spanked. I know there's Eli and Cruz/Nicks, and the Giants defense aren't terrible(although the Packers defense kind of is, so that was always a concern). But still, Packers has the offense that gave them a 15-1 season. But I knew that if the Kansas City Chiefs(of all teams) could beat the Packers then anyone could. So I wasn't giving them the crown as the 2012 Superbowl champs like so many others were.

I mean what was it, 8 dropped passes and 4 turnovers? Pathetic from this offense. What I don't understand is why didn't they use Driver and Nelson more? Finley and Jennings, two of their best receivers, just were not on their game and were the ones dropping all the passes. Driver was thrown to three times. He caught all three, and one of those were for a TD. So why didn't the Packers use these two guys more? It could had been a different game if they did.

I don't know if the couple weeks off is what made them play so poorly or what. And I realize the Packers barely squeaked out a win during the week 13 game between the two. But still, at home at Lambeau with that offense, there's no reason that they should had not won.

Anyways, the two I would like to see in the Superbowl are the Harbaugh brothers. Jim's first year for the 49ers has been phenomenal, and I personally think he deserves to go. Samething with the Ravens. That defense with Flacco and the others on offense? That's a good team. I would love to see these two brothers go head to head. But then again Ravens are facing Brady, Gronkowski(what is he, the best TE in the league? the guy is an animal), and Hernandez in New England. So that is definitely not going to be an easy game for the Ravens.

All I can say is that this weekend Championship games are going to be great and they could not come quick enough. smile

I always get depressed every year when the playoffs start. I know that there's only a few more weeks of football left. The seasons go by so quickly. I wish the NFL heads would come together and decide to make the seasons an even 20 games. Kind of like they did way back when when they decide to bump the season from 12 to 16 games. 20 would give us a whole other month of the regular season.

Re: NFL Final 4 predictions

@ Icafiero - Up until this year, I would have agreed with you regarding San Fran and Aaron Rodgers vs Alex Smith...  But now it looks as if all Smith needed was an ex QB and now his coach in Harbaugh, who was the ultimate 'control the game' type QB .. bottom line, great coaching IMHO ... Conflict is good at times!

@h8uthemost, as a Bears fan it must pain you to see the Packers bust out... lol I am a Bears fan first also...  I think it was poor coaching that lost the Packers the game as much as anything..  They allowed too much resting and not enough continuity during the two weeks off.  I think the best teams in the last few years have come from the Wild Card teams who have caught fire at the right time... Just like GB did last year and the Giants did in 07/08

IMO, the Giants are the most dangerous team left..  A very good coach, a very good and now healthy swarming defense, a front three receivers as good as anyone and the fact that they have been here and done this so recently, with the same exact formula. Also two monsters at running back that can power the ball down the field... I also think Eli is out to prove he is and elite QB

It will be fun to watch!

Green Bay lost 37/20. Denver got spanked! 10/45. I've never been a New England fan, but I was that day!

Re: NFL Final 4 predictions

@Z-Yan -- it's probably the biggest shame that the Saints are not advancing, seeing the way Brees and the team were playing at the end of the season. During the game (I watched at work, in a fairly 49er-partisan newsroom of a newspaper), every time Brees dropped back to pass, you could hear everyone holding their breath until the end of the play.

@VastOne -- Good point. Harbaugh is an excellent coach. Bear in mind -- no pun intended, Chicago fans -- that it's not a knock on Alex Smith to say he's not Aaron Rodgers. It will also be interesting to see if Eli can get out from under Peyton's shadow once and for all, but he's got to have a good game Sunday -- not his typical 250-yard, four-interception two-fumble game

Re: NFL Final 4 predictions

This year is proving that you cannot predict outcomes in the NFL. There were so many upsets during the regular season, and the playoffs have been the same (Denver took a game? Really???)

That said, the year the Ravens beat the Giants in the Superbowl was the best sports experience in my life, better than when I lived in Boston and the 84' Celts went all the way against Magic and the Lakers. Baltimore loves their football, every major landmark is lit up purple right now, the Clocktower, Hopkins University (both campuses), this year they even have purple streetlamps in the Inner Harbour. So, go Ravens, we'll see the Giants for a rematch of Superbowl XXXV (sorry, brother Jim).

Incidentally, I've gone to the Super Bowl five times, but never as a player. Anyone else?

+1 As you said, ALL - THE -TIME. The 24/7 Tebow Show. That's all you ever heard during the Florida games as well.  I never thought much about him, but after the Alabama - Florida game, I have zero respect for Tim Tebow.

Re: NFL Final 4 predictions

As a University of Miami partisan, I hate everything about the University of Florida, including Tebow. So while I don't wish him ill, I am certainly glad the Tebow hoopla is over.

Sincerely,
lcafiero, the U

You have no idea. sad Oh wait, you do! That's awesome that there's another Bears fan around here! I thought for sure I'd be all alone. By the way isn't Jordy Nelson a free agent now? How great would it be for the Bears to pick him up? The guy is one of the hottest TE's. But I don't see the Packers letting him go though, so the Bears getting him is just a dream.

And I guess if you put it that way, the Giants are pretty dangerous. I mean I didn't think they would make it this far. Who knows...they might just pull the upset over the 49ers. But still, I want to see the 49ers and Ravens in the Superbowl. It's two teams that haven't been there in a while and brothers coaching each team. I'm rooting for the both of them.

But you're right. This Giants/49ers is definitely going to be fun to watch.

True. But for the Packers I consider a 37 to 20 loss a spanking. They just handed the game to the Giants. And I honestly don't believe in the time off theory that people are saying. Yes that might have been a factor, but look at the 49ers. They had just as much time off but they aggressive as hell and came out the winner. I think the Packers offense were just not on their game.

As for the Tebow thing, I have respect for him. I'm not on the bandwagon but I'm definitely rooting for the kid. I think he has a great attitude and has a huge future. Like Urlacher said: "he's a good running back". And indeed he is. I wish more QB's would run like Tebow does. He puts his shoulders in front and is not afraid to take a hit. No sliding for him.

It's going to be at least a couple years, but I have no doubt that he'll reach the ranks of the other elite QB's. He's really got to focus on his passing game during this off season though. He throws an oogly ball. lol

Re: NFL Final 4 predictions

I like the Ravens to make it all the way. But as has been said before, too many upsets already happened. And these remaining teams are pretty equal imo.

Also, Eli has already proven his worth. He steps up his game when it counts the most. I remember being in the US when the Giants won and I had a bet going with the bartender, who was from NYC... I told him Brady would throw for 500+ yards, but Plaxico and Eli happened.

Also, nothing agaisnt Tebow. Just extremely overhyped.

Can't hold on to the touchdown pass, kick the dinky fieldgoal to go to OT wide, f u Ravens.

Re: NFL Final 4 predictions

^ Sorry for your pain hhh, this looked like poor coaching, IMO

Got the first part right in my predictions, now lets see if SF can make me some more coin...

Re: NFL Final 4 predictions

Thanks bro, I questioned some of the coaching decisions too, but you can't blame the coach for those last missed oppotunities. The Pats didn't win that game, the Ravens lost it.

I wouldn't trade places with Billy Cundiff right now for any amount of cash.

Big time choke, it's ok, I'm a pats fan! smile

Re: NFL Final 4 predictions

Say what you will, but I think Brady and the gang did not look as intimidated by the Ravens like they have in the past.

It was a good game and the better team is in the SB.. No matter how they got there...
