Topic: new user says "Hi"

I'm surveying lightweight linuxes for use on a few boxes I run for myself, the Dear Wife, and the MIL.  Trying to keep them all on the same distro to keep my unpaid support life simplified...

I heard the HPR interview with the crunchbang dev and swung by to pick up an .iso.

The boxes are currently running antiX but I am testing lubuntu and crunchbang in virtualbox.  So far crunchbang seems to be the tidiest and also lines up nicely with my own approach. The kinds of things I'd normally add to the openbox menu were thoughtfully put there by the dev.

#!, all else is but a shadow!

Re: new user says "Hi"

welcome to the community fratermus! please be aware that even when you do not choose #! to be your final distro, you are still very much free to stay here as part of the community. using #! is not a prerequisite for joining our nice group of people here.

Re: new user says "Hi"

Well said rhowaldt, could have been from some sort of forum disclaimer, is there one?

#!, all else is but a shadow!

Re: new user says "Hi"

^ nope: http://crunchbanglinux.org/forums/rules/

might be good to have something like that mentioned. i'll take it up with the higher powers wink

Re: new user says "Hi"

Thanks for the welcome.  It seems like an active and friendly community here, always a good sign.

I didn't think running crunchbang it was a requirement for the forums, but rather wanted to put my interest in context so you knew what I was trying to accomplish.

I had briefly tried crunch in an earlier version but didn't really need it then.  I paid more attention this time and wrote a snippet about the positive experience in this entry

(BTW, I've been wandering around the forums.  Great stickies and link to pastebin in the header?   I like the way you guys think.)

Welcome to #! You'll never go back.

Re: new user says "Hi"

I just started using #! last week and I'm already heavily addicted.  big_smile  Welcome!

Re: new user says "Hi"

Oh, man.  They already said all the good stuff.  <mumble,  mumble>  wink  tongue

My formula for living is quite simple. I get up in the morning and I go to bed at night. In between, I occupy myself as best I can.

Welcome to #!

Re: new user says "Hi"

Ok, I've moved from running #! in a virtual to running on my main workstation.  Nuke and pave, woo hoo!

Ran the post-install to get the basics in place then ran my own post-installs (saved on a usb drive) to get things the way I like'em.  I'm continually impressed by the forethought that goes into #!, and the community here in the forum.

Re: new user says "Hi"

Likewise here -- #! and Openbox just aligned with the way I like to do things -- other distros throw in a bunch of stuff I don't need or force me to install the things I want -- #! just works (you'll hear that over and over) and the community is a big plus for sure...

Good to have you aboard...

(and btw -- told you you'd never go back smile)

If you're still looking, LinuxMintDebian and Peppermint OS are good, solid distro's. But their forums are a bit more stuffy...
