Topic: How to post links efficiently

Sometimes we want to post a link but as a clicky because it looks better or fits better into the text. But not everyone knows how that works.

So here we go, it is very easy.

Instead to post a link like this: http://crunchbanglinux.org/forums/, you can do it this way, that looks nicer:

CrunchBang

This is the end result:

CrunchBang

Re: How to post links efficiently

This is a really good idea Sir Ivan!

Another one course,

there is also a quote button

and a code button

and the image button which changes this

http://images.wikia.com/en.linux/images … g-icon.png

to

http://images.wikia.com/en.linux/images/9/91/Crunchbang-icon.png

by using it this way

You can also stack any if these commands as in

Do this
do that do this then do that
now
in terminal
do it again
build

To see the contents and context of any message, all you need to do is quote it to see it's internal magical code.

Anybody else with how to's regarding posts please post..

Re: How to post links efficiently

^ Oh, great!!! But the pic from Dropbox does not work, was that intentional?

Re: How to post links efficiently

^ Interesting.. which one, the link or the image?

Re: How to post links efficiently

Both are showing a 403 error.

Re: How to post links efficiently

^ Strange...  I wonder if something has changed on dropbox..  On this machine that I created the message on, it shows up fine...

But on another machine I am getting the same 403 error..

I will try to find out what is going on.. In the mean time, I switch it to a different source for the image and it seems to be working

Try a reload and you should see it ok

Re: How to post links efficiently

Yep, works now.

Re: How to post links efficiently

Text link works ... image doesn't for me. Maybe noscript ? Tried reloading a couple times n nope. Image doesn't even show up as a link for me here. Oh well, shrugs. The mystic joys of tech, lol.

Agree good share Ivan, am a fan of trying to make my postings "pretty". As ya know, I tend to babble and don't want people to get the dreaded WOT = Wall of text. lol Had no idea the code tag could work like that. Afraid canna share all of my posting secrets ... Then I won't be special dang it ! Yeah right ... lol.

Sighs ... why not ? Might help folks, n might help #!'s forum. Using keywords in anchor text to your links. Thusly making it easier for the googlebot/etc to find n index junk around the web. Instead of saying ...

Link

Tell da bots what the link is about. ie ...

Crunchbang Linux

Plus just noticed Ivan kinda already covered this. So forget what follows, I was never here, ya aren't really reading this. Keep ya eyes on the swinging watch n repeat after me please. CBizgreat! was not here, CBizgreat! was not here. Dang it .... now I'm not special anymore. *weeps. But ah ha ! Actually I still have many da secret up ma sleeve folks ! SO THERE ! lol

Some common cbiz abbreviations. This will save me time and yet @ same time tell folks what the babble is supposed to mean.

Vll ! = ( Viva la gnu/Linux !)    Vl#!! = ( Viva la #! !)    Last but not least, UD ... OD ! = ( Use Debian ... or die !) tongue

Re: How to post links efficiently

My thread-posting "how-to" (I learned this the hard way, like most things Linux)

There are several ways to politely post large images like screenshots, including imgur, omploader and postimage. All allow you to upload an image, then return a formatted link to the original plus a thumbnail you can post in the appropriate place (the screenshot thread, for example), so you don't cost bandwidth for people who don't want to download every image at full size.

Thank you ivanov, will try to remember this one.

#!, all else is but a shadow!

This seems to be working; img and url combo - but getting a black bar when mouse over Tux?

I just post links for ease and convince or to reply quickly w/out a lot of typing code - but the buttons do make it easier. I will attempt to break the lazy habit smile

Re: How to post links efficiently

^ The idea came also from the music thread. smile
