Re: #! and tux complete theme

@vicshrike.. I like that "crazy cool" Thank you. smile

@rhowaldt That is a great suggestion! I had thought about throwing a quick blink of the eyes after entering your username. This is my first attempt at a login screen.. I'm still seeing what the script limitations are.

Re: #! and tux complete theme

@falldown, absolutely loving the work you've put in on the whole theme in general, wish i could find my way round Gimp as easy.

Are you planning on making the theme available to download and install?

Re: #! and tux complete theme

^ Thank you! I was planning on making it available as soon as I get all the kinks out of it.

I have been using gimp for about 7 years now. I use it for every project. Every new project is a learning experience.

HERE is a great place to begin if you are interested. smile

Re: #! and tux complete theme

^ Thank you, I shall take a look.  I've tried playing with Gimp but being new to it found it a little intimidating.
I look forward to the final product.

Re: #! and tux complete theme

^ I was that way at one time kri5.  I have no where near the talent level of falldown, but after spending sometime doing something I wanted to achieve, gimp became easier

Once you spend some time with it, it really is not that difficult and there is a world of help on gimp everywhere it seems...

My advice would be to start on something small that you want to accomplish and you will learn the gimp in no time

Re: #! and tux complete theme

#falldown...

Epic work my man... looking forward to the end product.  If you can pull off the eyes moving the way you have described, I think an academy award will be waiting for you

Well done!

Thanks for the encouragment, I'm thinking on having a go at making my avatar a little bit more blingy. big_smile
Hopefully you'll all see a change sometime soon.

Very true on both accounts!

I have taught myself alot by just opening an existing script (after backing it up of course) and editing it piece by piece to see what each function does.. and then from there I have been able to write a few scripts myself. Hands on seems to be a better learning tool for me. Don't get me wrong.. How-tos are really educational if you have a nac for writing them like VastOne does.

I taught myself bass guitar by picking it up and hours of training my brain to recognize the different tones... sorry off topic, but yes being persistent and patient are the two best tools for self improvement.

HaHa.. that was pretty long winded of me.. lol

Re: #! and tux complete theme

@falldown, we have a lot in common ... I did the same thing with guitar and piano, although I consider myself to be an ear player as in play by ear... I can hear a key and play in it instantly... of course this was self taught..

But the bottom line to it all is PASSION... whether it is gimp, script writing, guitar, bass, woodworking, sewing or writing How To's, it all begins with the desire and passion to do it..  I believe I could be an outstanding coder but will never be one, because I have no passion or patience to be one...

Great advice from all on this one...

@rhowaldt - well said!

TUX-SLiM-1440x900
TUX-SLiM-1680x1050

This is just the simple version while I work on the animated one.
This is set-up for my resolution... so I might have to re-adjust the settings a bit.. please give her a shot and leave suggestions or questions.. smile

EDIT:

To set-up SLiM theme:
Extract files to here  /usr/share/slim/themes
Edit your slim.conf

current_theme SLiM-TUX-Theme

which is found here  /etc/slim.conf

and then just log out.. smile

**Edited above post**

Perhaps SLiM isn't so popular. big_smile I will port this to some other DM's.

Re: #! and tux complete theme

@falldown

Hope you don't mind, I tried it myself and it looks great.  Tux is slightly of to the right not sure if that's how he's meant to be or if it's my resolution which is 1440x900.

Re: #! and tux complete theme

@kri5 Tux should be centered.

I have a lappy with 1440x900 res.. I will check this out. I think it can be resolved in your theme file, but I will dig a little deeper and see what I find.

Does all the login input line up?

Sorry this is my first login config that I have done. big_smile

Re: #! and tux complete theme

^ Everything else looked fine, all text and boxes lined up OK. smile
For a first attempt I'd say you did a fantastic job, I doubt I'd have the patience lol

Edit:  Actually the whole thing is slightly offset to the right on my lappy  sad

^ That looks much better, everything is central and all boxes and text line up, looks georgeous. big_smile
Should be included, if not the default slim theme for #!.  Great job! wink

Saying that I only have one small personal preference, I would probably remove the shadow of the login box.

Re: #! and tux complete theme

@kri5.. the shadow gives it a nice effect IMO, but you could gimp it out if you like big_smile

Your avatar is very nice!! did you create that in gimp?

@falldown.. Thank you very much, it is indeed made with gimp.  It wasn't that difficult in the end, just a bit fiddly. lol
