Topic: linux-image-3.2.0-0.bpo.1-amd6 in backports

Just so xaos doesn't think he's got the upper hand on i386. I got the kernel installed with no problems, and there is a pretty significant performance improvement on my machine.

Re: linux-image-3.2.0-0.bpo.1-amd6 in backports

Hey, there's a rt variant of 3.2 for amd64 in backports!

Re: linux-image-3.2.0-0.bpo.1-amd6 in backports

Too bad everyone's just finishing rolling out all these 3.2 kernels right before the security patch came out to guard from mempodipper. The one in liquorix repo is still vulnerable too.

people on servers are most likely on .32, so I don't think it's such a big deal. I would like smxi to update and include Catalyst 12.1 today!

Re: linux-image-3.2.0-0.bpo.1-amd6 in backports

I disabled sshd on my computer at home just in case, so I'd like a patched kernel. I could grab the sid one but I'll probably just wait for the new liquorix. It's awesome that they're backporting some newer kernels finally though.

Re: linux-image-3.2.0-0.bpo.1-amd6 in backports

so what you're telling me is that after all that work I put into getting 3.1 going, just days later 3.2 is available.  Ugh...Can't wait to see what comes out of this.  Good thing I just got re-upped my beer supply and I got my lucky coin from Chinese New Year.

the rocky path may just be the best path.

Re: linux-image-3.2.0-0.bpo.1-amd6 in backports

Ran the update without issue on my lappy which gave me fits with the older 2.6 configs. Works great, memory utilization seems a little cleaner once the initial openbox load is completed.

Hey, what's the difference between the variants?  I'd like to try one out?

There's been an update to cpufrequtils, the warning messages are gone now. Btw,

Re: linux-image-3.2.0-0.bpo.1-amd6 in backports

^ & ^^ I had a feeling it would; as I mentioned, this seems to be a recurring glitch with the significant kernel updates.  Looks like quite a few other packages, from ffmpeg to hplip to gimp, are also getting updates...I'm sure some of them have something to do with the recent security issue...

About 70 MB of downloaded data on my machine. Kinda like your weekly Ubuntu update big_smile
The last two minor (6.0.3 and 6.0.4) upgrades have been stellar here. I immediately fsarchived my root partition.

Re: linux-image-3.2.0-0.bpo.1-amd6 in backports

I had a little more, but I also roll with the debian-multimedia repo instead of Philip's mirror.  (Philip's Mirror - horror movie or band name? big_smile)  791kB freed!

Re: linux-image-3.2.0-0.bpo.1-amd6 in backports

Bit the bullet and installed linux-image-3.2.0-0.bpo.1-amd64 (3.2.1-2~bpo60+1).

No issues

Also had that whopper of an update.  big_smile

I'll use the American grading system for this. In elementary school, in arts class, everybody was getting straight A's, no matter what kind of garbage they drew or carved. I was so bad, I'd never get anything higher than a C. Seriously, I wouldn't be able to draw a stick figure comic like xkcd.

Re: linux-image-3.2.0-0.bpo.1-amd6 in backports

I have to say that Debian rules with such updates from backports on a stable basis. Incredible!

Re: linux-image-3.2.0-0.bpo.1-amd6 in backports

Right after booting, I immediately went to tty1 and tried logging in and out several times.  I was so excited to find that the keyboard issue appeared to be gone!  ...then I went to tty7, logged in via SLiM, and...same old same-old on tty1. neutral

Is the graphical session somehow "bound" to tty1?

all the more reason for you to do the illustrations. really curious as to what you'd come up with smile

Incredible yes, upgraded my desktop today, looks like everything is ok. One question though.
For how long can/dare I install the stuff from backports on a stable basis? The answer is probably
til it goes #! lol
Is there anyone here who have some thoughts on the subject?

#!, all else is but a shadow!

Regular packages, like multimedia and office software, text editors, that kind of thing are pretty much zero problems. ALSA and proprietary video drivers can be a pain with kernel and X upgrades, but it's not unmanageable. I wouldn't do heavy backporting of server software, but few people do that (there's a reason Debian is the nr 1 server OS in the world), and I doubt that one was your concern.

Re: linux-image-3.2.0-0.bpo.1-amd6 in backports

You were right of course, that was not my concern. Thanks  el_k.
