Topic: (SOLVED)Spotify in wine crashes

Decided to install wine and spotify on my desktop with #! Nov release. Have never had any problem with running spotify on #! before. But spotify crashed, tried the same on my eee, same result. Visited the wine homepage and discovered that my version were quite old, so maybe that was the reason for the crashes. That was yesterday. Today I tried spotify on #! February release. It started alright, but when connecting
with spotify hq, it immediatly did an update of the spotify application, and surprise surprise crashed! Did try it out on Debian Wheeezy, and Ubuntu 11.10, same result. When spotify connects, it does an update
and crashes. The wine version on my Ubuntu install were 1.3, on #! it were at 1.0 since the Squeeze repo is a little bit old in comparison. Lately I have not been using spotify much, but have been debating with
myself if I should try their adfree Linux client. Maybe I should treat this as a sign and a good excuse for me to do just that. If there is anyone who have experience of the spotify Linux client, please share your opinions.

Re: (SOLVED)Spotify in wine crashes

Googled around, there were of course others who had experienced the same. Tried with PlayOnLinux, installed through synaptic, crashed. Went to the Spotify site, read about the Linux version, should only be available for premium/unlimited
paying customers. Were intrigued by the easy install process for the Linux version, so why not try it out. Changed my sources list, did the key thing, ran apt-get etc. Started Spotify from terminal and am now listening to Ol`Dirty Bastard, so far it
is working. There are advertising though, so it looks like you can use the Linux version for free with ads. Have not seen a single word about that on their site though. Do not know if or when I will do an upgrade, not that it is a lot of money, only $4.99 per month for an unlimited subscription, and a music catalogue so vast that it is hard to imagine. If things change and Spotify goes #! for me I will come back to it here of course. The Spotify player for Linux looks like the Windows version more or less, and the grey colors reminds me of something... big_smile
