Topic: Cant 'Install' to EEPC701 **Resolved**

Hi All, so impressed with #! running from USB stick on my EEPC701 I would like to install it. I am a novice but been reading here avidly,

It seems necessary to "right click on the desktop and select install from the Open-box main menu".

Right click > settings > openbox gives me 5 options, none of which seem to help.

It was all going so well, I hope this doesn't mean I have reached the upper Linux limit allowed for Grey Surfers!   Thanks if you can help.

Re: Cant 'Install' to EEPC701 **Resolved**

Welcome to #!.

I would reboot from the Live CD and then directly install, not going into the Live session.

Re: Cant 'Install' to EEPC701 **Resolved**

Thanks, does 'boot from the live CD' somehow also apply to the USB I have made. I went through all the startup options, all of which seemed to require me to have a CD ROM

Re: Cant 'Install' to EEPC701 **Resolved**

Thanks. I see all the startup options referring to CD ROM instal, is there an easy way to make it take the files it must need from my USB stick instead?  I do not have a CD device, and am probably making myself sound like an ignoramus! Sorry

Re: Cant 'Install' to EEPC701 **Resolved**

Oh, we had such a problem many times here, am trying to find it.

Re: Cant 'Install' to EEPC701 **Resolved**

Cheers ivanovnegro - I'm jumping to post grad studies browsing the quick reference link on your profile too!

Re: Cant 'Install' to EEPC701 **Resolved**

^ Yes, that is a good idea, there you can also find how to install from USB I guess, if not we have a wiki, maybe a bit outdated http://crunchbanglinux.org/wiki/statler … stallation. I have to admit that I am not the speacialist for USB installs. I hope someone can join us too. I tried to find that thread that was speaking about the same problem you have but I cannot find it at the moment. hmm

Re: Cant 'Install' to EEPC701 **Resolved**

Thanks for looking, the Statler wiki and similar threads all make it sound easily installed from the desktop of the live version, I'll hunt round for a while, then back to Mr Gates I'm afraid.:)

Re: Cant 'Install' to EEPC701 **Resolved**

I am one of the Debian users here, not strictly #!, and because of that I am not sure how it works from the Live environment. I thought that is not possible.

Re: Cant 'Install' to EEPC701 **Resolved**

Try the graphical install again from the boot menu.  (If the wiki still says "boot from Live CD" it should be changed to something like "boot from Live Image", because the image is a hybrid; the image and instructions are the same, regardless of the medium.)  There is some kind of "checking CD-ROM drive" speedbump that some people have encountered, but I've never run into it; most users who have run into it report that it's fairly easy to skip, but I can't remember the exact procedure.

EDIT:  There was an option to install from a live session in the Ubuntu-based versions of CrunchBang and one of the pre-release alpha versions of Statler, but this is no longer an option.  You have to reboot and select one of the install options from the boot menu.

while ( ! ( succeed = try() ) );

Re: Cant 'Install' to EEPC701 **Resolved**

Thanks pvsage, indeed there are references to CD installing during the boot up, then the system errors that it cannot find the said CD.

I suspect there is a way to tell the system to go to the USB flash-stick instead, but alas I am an end user and unlikely to reach the skill level required for #!

Yes, there is. Please read this post: http://crunchbanglinux.org/forums/post/60035/#p60035.
If that does not work, scroll down to the last post on that page and try my steps posted there. If that does not work, you might have to read the other 5 pages... roll

Re: Cant 'Install' to EEPC701 **Resolved**

Ok Kuno, here goes, I will report back!

Re: Cant 'Install' to EEPC701 **Resolved**

Thanks for your all your suggestions guys, alas I am unable to install the operating system to my computer, hopefully a future version will have this facility in an easy format. Regards

Re: Cant 'Install' to EEPC701 **Resolved**

Alright man even if your unable to install as if from the USB you have now, there is a way to install directly from USB provided your willing to give a shot to unetbootin, or follow http://crunchbanglinux.org/wiki/statler … stallation. Personally, I've done just about every method there is to install, the one on the netbook I'm writing this from is from a a USB CD-ROM, but I have installed to a similar netbook using a flashdrive made using unetbootin (google it, or just apt-get install unetbootin, I don't know what you're running) and to an older AMD tower using the standard dd method described in the post I linked above.

If you want #! you'll need to fill us in a little. But mate, I hate to tell you right clicking the desktop and checking out openbox in the menu will never ever ever, install #!. Feel free to email me any time if you want to pursue installing, I got loads of patience.

Forums are boring, drinking is awesome.

Re: Cant 'Install' to EEPC701 **Resolved**

Solved install of #! 10.xx.

Eepc 701 4Gb SSD internal, 2Gb RAM. Original BIOS (? 1001)

Tried all manner of bootable USB pendrive type installs which would run live but not from the internal SSD.

As a final resort I used the SD card (well the micro SD from my mobile phone in an adapter to be precise)

Made the SD Reader the primary drive and hey presto, - a lengthy install process and a lot of www updating but a dream to use and thanks to contributors to this forum for their input.

Now onto two crucial matters - how to get my bluebottle headphones to communicate properly and how to mark this thread as resolved!

Great John! Now you are a #!'er!

To mark this thread solved just edit the title of your first post.

As for your headphones, I suggest open a new thread.
