Is plymouth running correctly?
When/where do you see this error?

Sorry, I don't have a clue.

Re: Startpar: Service(s) returned failure: plymouth ... failed

googled it... still no good idea of why this happens. @bpotacon: did you change anything to your system prior to this happening?

Re: Startpar: Service(s) returned failure: plymouth ... failed

i just installed plymouth and set it up for my system by using this

Re: Startpar: Service(s) returned failure: plymouth ... failed

*bump* does anyone know how to fine out what caused plymouth to fail

Re: Startpar: Service(s) returned failure: plymouth ... failed

all i got is that this guy seems to have the exact same thing: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=616360
however, seems there's no solution. filed under 'Outstanding' and 'Unclassified'.

when you do 'man startpar' you see that this app 'starts runlevel scripts in parallel'. this suggests there's something wrong in that area (an area which i, sadly, don't know much about).

i know i had issues with this stuff too when i removed plymouth. but you'll need more knowledgeable people to help you out here. or, go search for yourself ofcourse.

Re: Startpar: Service(s) returned failure: plymouth ... failed

I couldn't find much about this. Apart from some really old bug report that says it's an old error message.

bpotacon, you said plymouth was running correctly after the starpar message? You see the !# logo fading in and out?

So... that means Plymouth is not failing, but works fine, except for the error message...

Re: Startpar: Service(s) returned failure: plymouth ... failed

^ hmmm... could it be that plymouth is called too early, or maybe with a wrong argument, which initially gives the error but then doesn't prevent it from running anyway? or something? just speculating here...

Re: Startpar: Service(s) returned failure: plymouth ... failed

thats what im thinking but im not sure how to go about finding a way to show that
