Topic: Keyboard problems

I have installed #! on a pen drive using LinuxLiveUSB Creator under Windows Vista.
Works like a dream, with some problems (of course) when I boot #! on a Thinkpad r50p
Problem 1.
In the boot menu I cannot choose anything else than "Persistent", since my keyboard does not seem to work at that stage. Luckily #! will start after a while by itself in Persistent mode.

Problem 2.
When running, I seem not to be able to find a correct keyboard definition, since with all that I have chosen, The following happens in the vi editor:
my arrow keys give me capitals B, A, C en D (only in INSERT mode) and other keys are also give me the wrong response for instance: # instead of \
I have tried the following:

sudo dpkg-reconfigure keyboard-configuration

and I picked Thinkpad r60 or Generic 104-key PC, both USA and no further options. However, no change can be seen before or after reboot.

Also it did not help to include in autostart:  setxkbmap us &
Thanks for help!

Re: Keyboard problems

Maybe you could try an alternative USB keyboard to help troubleshoot/fix the issue?

Re: Keyboard problems

About the boot menu: I was confused, since the menu does not react on hitting the ENTER key, after that the arrow keys of course do not have effect anymore. So, that is SOLVED. I would vote for a way to shortcut this menu and always start the USB key in Persistent mode.

The other problem is still not solved. Is it possible to change and test keyboard layouts when CrunchBang is running?

Re: Keyboard problems

Keyboards should be plug-n-play = hot swapable, right?

Re: Keyboard problems

A little difficult when using a laptop?

Re: Keyboard problems

Can you just use a USB keyboard with the lappy?  you can select keyboard layouts by running the cb-welcome script with #! running
