Topic: crunchbang compatability with asus u36sd?

Hey guys, I have been MIA for a bit due to school and working two jobs but I just got a new computer.  I wanted to dual boot this one as well and I'm not too sure if crunchbang would play nice with it.  Its an Asus u36sd-xh71. The only thing that would worry me is that it has GPU chipsets.  The ubuntu community has been working with this laptop for a few months but they haven't been able to get some of the componets to work.  Here are the specs on it:

I am not the hardware guy but it looks good to me so far.

For Nvidia you might need the video drivers, also the newest kernel is available now via backports.

Edit: The easiest way would be to create a Live disc/USB and try the newest image of #!.

Look at bumblebee and debumblebee. Optimus is a horrible thing.

Thanks as always guys.  I'll try the live cd and bumblebee.  Also is there any way to install crunchbang onto my 500GB external hard drive?  I've been reading on it but I cant find any solid information on this laptop seeing how its the new generation one.

Thanks a bunch.  My next question is if it works on other debian OS' does that mean I can install #! and use bumblebee on it or is it more complicated than that?

Re: crunchbang compatability with asus u36sd?

^ #! is 100 % compatible with Debian, so if the workaround works under Debian it will also on #!.

Thanks for that reply. I went ahead and installed ubuntu 11 on my external hard drive and stayed away from the nvidia cards and used bumblebee and it worked like a charm.  Only thing that sucks about bumblebee is that you have to manually run programs with the nvidia gpu by inserting "opti" in front of the program.  But it seems like they have made some good progress with the optimus drives.
I want to do #! on my ssd external hard drive as well but the only problem with the bios is that it keeps on resetting the boot order to the internal hard drive.  I made 4 partitions on the drives which was /boot, /, /home and a swap.  I'm thinking its the bios thats causing this problem but does anyone have any ideas on why the boot order is changing after every restart?

Re: crunchbang compatability with asus u36sd?

^ On my crappy laptop happens the same, but it recognizes CDs in the boot order.
