Topic: Just found crunchbang, using for a few weeks now

Hi guys! I want to say hello and thanks for this awesome distro! I found an old laptop funning a pentium m 1.6ghz 512 ram and realized that windows 7 would run sluggish, plus I've been using osx for the last 3 years. I used to dabble in Ubuntu a few years ago and remember when small & powerful distros like puppydog, DSL and crunchbang didn't exist.  I was on reddit and someone suggested for a small, lightweight, and usable on older hardware os, try crunchbang.  I gave it a shot, and love how simple and great it is.  I have barely used my mac since getting #! installed on this old lappy.  But yesterday I was trying to dual install windows 7, which worked but MBR was rewritten and I cant get grub back.  So for now I've been trying to mess with the linux partiton to restore grub

Re: Just found crunchbang, using for a few weeks now

Hi mikeosoft, sorry to hear you're having grub problems, hope you get it sorted.  Not sure how often you've dual booted but generally it is better to install Windows first and then Linux, you won't have the grub problem then. wink

Re: Just found crunchbang, using for a few weeks now

Thanks kri5, i solved the issue myself.

Since MBR was overwritten by win 7, i decided to try easybcd, setup a linux selection, and didn't realize there was "grub" as well as "grub2" I was using "grub" and hence the path was different.  A simple change to "grub2" and I am back in business.

So now windows boot manager handles things, and I've added a "crunchbang" to the list
Maybe not the best way to handle 2 OS's, but it works.

Re: Just found crunchbang, using for a few weeks now

thanks for the warm welcome! I just noticed via conky, for some reason crunchbang installed with an i486 kernel instead of an i686 kernel.  I am doing some searching onto how to update the kernel but i am bombarded with tons of choices, which one do i choose?

@EDIT@ forgot my system specs: DV1000 pentium M 1.6 ghz, 512 ram laptop (circa 2004/2005)
