Menu>System>Synaptic Pacakge Manager, very easy and self explanatory.

You can use synaptic, but it's sort of overkill is you know just what you want. let's say you want irssi (which is so much nicer than Xchat) then you can fire up synaptic and locate the irssi package, select to install it and hit "apply", or you can do the following at the command line: sudo apt-get install irssi
both work exactly the same but when you know the name of the software you want it's always easier to just use apt.

Yea, that...
Have you added or changed repositories? If so you may have added something that affected the install.
Provided you haven't screwed up your repos,
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get dist-upgradewill get you up to date.
Otherwise give us more info about your system so we can help.

Latest iso downloaded from the website, installed via USB (32bit).
I'm not talking about applications specifically, I here am talking about whole libraries missing.
Once I decided to install Skype...
First I was missing libss1 or similar, then, when I tried to install the library, It was missing some other library which to install I needed something which again, couldn't be installed because of a dependency failure or a library missing.
Now brb gonna reinstall because somehow I'm not in the sudoers file and the incident will be reported xD
... again. Looks like I'm in for a hassle with this distro

So your actual question is "how do I install Skype in CrunchBang?" Is that correct? Why didn't you just say so in the first place? Linux is only a "hassle" if you make things more difficult than they need to be.

Apparently, my Software Sources were outdated. Took a while, edited visudo, updated sources and now am installing Skype.
