Topic: Install Errors: Initramfs and VFS: unable to mount root fs

When I boot the CD, if I try to do the Graphic Install, then the screen just goes black and does nothing.

I tried text install, and got the following errors

Initramfs unpacking failed: junk in compressed archive
Kernel panic - not syncing: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on unknown-block(254,32)

and then nothing happens.

When I try to boot into the live environment or w/e I only get the first error and it still halts.

Have you checked the md5 of the cd?  The cd may be corrupt.

Well I've checked the md5 of the .iso and it is the correct one. I don't know how to check the md5 of the actual CD. Also this happens with every distro I try to install.

These are the settings I used to burn the CD with Alcohol 120% if it matters

bump

Re: Install Errors: Initramfs and VFS: unable to mount root fs

Maybe try it again with a lower write speed?  It is usually recommended to burn at as slow a speed as the software and hardware will allow.

while ( ! ( succeed = try() ) );

Re: Install Errors: Initramfs and VFS: unable to mount root fs

Yep, take the minimum speed to burn the CD always.

Re: Install Errors: Initramfs and VFS: unable to mount root fs

I tried burning at the minimum speed available by that program (16x), and I got the same errors.

Re: Install Errors: Initramfs and VFS: unable to mount root fs

^ Alcohol 120% only offers a minimum of 16x ? afaik the minimum burning speed should just be 1x... what's up with that?

Re: Install Errors: Initramfs and VFS: unable to mount root fs

Could you try another program to burn?
