Topic: Quick distrobution idea

By distribution I don't mean "Suse, Ubuntu, Debian", I mean "shipping, http, etc."

we should maybe offer a codec-free version, like Mint does. I don't neccesarily think we would be offering that as a 4th Download option, nonono, but make it clear that it is available on request, so that magazines etc (like LXF, who were worried over this) don't have to worry about the legal issues of having flash, etc on their cover disc.

and if you based it on sidux you could ship with smxi to let the user painlessly install them if he wants

The point was Crunchbang, as it is now, but without the codecs so magazines can sell it!

Ubuntu! Openbox! Crunchbang as it is now! But none of the legal issue!

EDIT: I'm not against there being a Debian based version, but that's not the point of this exercise.

Hi Mehall,

I get the point of having a version without the proprietary codecs in it and whole hertatly.  I was actually thinking on a version of #! that was totally free (as in software, not in beer, though free beer would be nice, pm me with your donations to moncky's beer fund).  Replace FF with IceWesal and such.  Chances are that basing that off of Debian directly would be a good idea.  However my question would then be how does that work with supporting potentially two sets of upstream changes?  IIRC Ubuntu does some significant tweaking of its Debian base.

Don't remember how to do it; just that it can be done! Google will know how.

IIRC, the main thing they do is mess about with the kernel.

It wouldn't be exactly the same as having Ubuntu Crunchbang, but it could be good.

Really, if you want that, you should use linux-libre though.
