Topic: #! Spotlight (revamped to a skyline)

Here's a slightly better crack at a spotlight, this time a little self-serving with the Toronto skyline in silhouette. smile

I'm still not 100% satisfied with it but what the heck. tongue

Re: #! Spotlight (revamped to a skyline)

Whoah, I love the concept!

Perhaps a somewhat less crisp reflection from the clouds would make that part look more realistic. I'd imagine that the light bounces around quite a bit in the cloud, diffusing the reflection. (but hey, that's from someone who's becoming a physicist, not an artist tongue)

Re: #! Spotlight (revamped to a skyline)

Thanks for the nice comments.

I've done some tweaking (worked on fuzzy-ing up the lighted circle and beam a bit, and just blurred the skyline a hair), and also de-noised the cloud image - should have done that at the start.

btw - I highly recommend the GREYCstoration plugin for the Gimp. It's very powerful and awesome at getting rid of CCD noise from digital photos (http://cimg.sourceforge.net/greycstoration/index.shtml).

Here's the tweaked version:

I have the solution, and it is so simple.

1)  Have an ugly monster w/Windows logo ingeniously blended into it's scaling/hide.
2)  Have Godzilla arriving with #! ingeniously displayed somewhere/how on her body.
3)  Have the #! Godzilla-Call light landing on the nemesis' body.

Oh no, they say hes got to go
Go go Godzilla, yeah
Oh no, there goes Tokyo
Go go Godzilla, yeah

I view KDE like I view snow. It looks fun and marvelous, it's fun to play in, but after a while I just want someone to take it all away.

Oh yeah.. that would be easy peasy. smile

Actually, it reminds me of a wallpaper I did for Verbal at the Linux Trivia Podcast a while ago. It had a similar kind of skyline/monster theme so it's not impossible I guess. wink

Dude that is AWESOME!  Now put a spotlight on Tux and voila!  Oh, and drop the text.  >.>

Maybe the Crunchie mascot should be a reenvisioned version of Tux?  Take your tux, give his black area a green, scaley skin, make his beak red-orange and his eyes a pupiless yellow-shiney-orb-monster set of orbs.  K R U N C H E E E lives!  Now place the city near a harbor...and and and...

Re: #! Spotlight (revamped to a skyline)

A few weeks ago, somebody (hopefully a Crunchbang fan), cited this image and asked if they could use it and would give me credit. I said sure, and voila.. a little while later it appeared on a local Audi dealership web page. Nice! (http://www.audidowntowntoronto.ca/fleet/en/index.spy).

Of course the Audi rings replaced the Crunchbang Logo.. but still, it was nice. smile

Re: #! Spotlight (revamped to a skyline)

Heh, thats pretty awesome rfquerin! You should definitely be proud, even if they took out the #! (makes me wish you subtly hid one in the clouds somewhere else tongue)

But yea, good work smile.

just call me...

Re: #! Spotlight (revamped to a skyline)

Great work! On a related note, I cannot remember if I mentioned this, but I have included the original piece in the crunchbang-look/crunchbang-wallpapers package, so it will now be included by default on all new CrunchBang installations! I have also included your #! Blueprint wallpaper.

Anyhow, I just wanted to say thank you for your contributions. Thank you! smile

Re: #! Spotlight (revamped to a skyline)

Wow. I'm flattered you included some of my stuff. I've been pretty busy with work and now converting our screencasts over to ogg format (to make use of HTML5). But I'm still happily rocking the #! smile And I always have lots of ideas floating about, so expect more posts. smile
