Topic: A slight reminder

Hello fellow crunchbangers (that never sounds right).

I am here to remind you of something you may know but have forgotten to do.
When you install a new program through the "sudo apt-get" or through synaptic-
the package itself is saved to your hardrive in synaptics cache folder.
These files are not deleted unless you do so manually.
They take up alot of space and build up over time with the more programs you install.
I would like to remind everyone to run -"sudo apt-get clean" to erase these unnecesarry files.
Thanks for reading. and keep crunchbangin!

BTW-
Thanks anonymous- i found what i was looking for. (you know of what i speak)

Re: A slight reminder

hello rigosantana3!
You can modify the preferences of synaptic to remove the downloaded packages; and other things too.

A+ Francis.

Re: A slight reminder

Im glad i could help.
I remembered this when i was trying to free up space on my hardrive (saved 1.8 GIGS)
A friend of mine recomends doing sudo apt-get clean at least once every 2 weeks.

Articisco:
ya your right- but it's usually not a good idead to do this because if their is an error during install you have to redownload the entire package again. or if one of the pckages freezez during download and you have to restart synaptic, all that work is gone.
Also that doesnt change if , like most people, you use the sudo apt-get.
