Topic: What media/music player do YOU use?

And why? Just interested in hearing peoples experiences...So far, Rhythmbox and Exaile have both delighted and frustrated me. But mostly frustrated.;)

Re: What media/music player do YOU use?

mocp, lastfm client or amarok

I view KDE like I view snow. It looks fun and marvelous, it's fun to play in, but after a while I just want someone to take it all away.

Re: What media/music player do YOU use?

SMPlayer - like VLC it can play almost anything, but it looks better and I like its options more big_smile

Re: What media/music player do YOU use?

SongBird (for the past 4 wks) for music, Rhythmbox before that.
VLC for other media / when I just want something to play.

Re: What media/music player do YOU use?

Audacious for audio, at the moment, and mplayer for video.

Re: What media/music player do YOU use?

VLC for video and Exaile for audio. I used to use (and love) Amarok 1.4, even though it's a KDE app and I use Gnome on my main system. But Amarok 2 is an abomination, and Exaile is the closet thing to Amarok 1.4 for Gnome (and it's improving, so I have hope that it will do everything that I used to love about Amarok 1.4 one day soon).

i too am waiting for the full release of Exaile 3.0 (gapless playback woot!). i've run the devel of 0.2.99 (strangely, what resulted from a d/l of 3.0alpha...) and it seems like alot of the regular features from 0.2.14 aren't even there. but there's always hope.

Apparently the internal version number is less than 3.0 so that when the actual 3.0 comes out it will be a greater number, so you were using 3.0 alpha.

I also tried the alpha and it was OK but not a significant enough leap to be worth the hassle. The main thing that I hope to see in Exaile 3.0 is proper sorting of Various Artist discs. Without that my collection is unmanageable.

Re: What media/music player do YOU use?

For audio, NCMPCPP (aka NCMPC++). For video, mostly VLC.

I never use smilies, but there are exceptions that prove the rule wink
Now playing: Libre.fm

Re: What media/music player do YOU use?

I use songbird.

Re: What media/music player do YOU use?

Exaile, I just love it. lol

Spotify or whatever there is, I don`t care.

Re: What media/music player do YOU use?

I've gotten fed up and abandoned most of the standalone music apps out there, in turn. If you don't need all kinds of bells and whistles, I'd suggest taking a look at MPD and Sonata.

Ditto.

Re: What media/music player do YOU use?

I don't play much video, but I've converted to VLC for audio because Amarok is a hog and audacious started behaving strangely.

Re: What media/music player do YOU use?

Lately I've been using exaile for audio.  Started with Amarok and I think I've tried most every one available.

Video I'm using vlc of late.

i tried that back when i first had linux on a computer (like 6 months ago, ancient history i know tongue ) but couldn't get MPD configured right. pity, Sonata looks really nice....just never got it to be able to PLAY anything.

Re: What media/music player do YOU use?

mocp for audio, and vlc for video

laptop: asus zenbook UX31 [debian wheezy, kernel 3.3.0-rc7-custom]
tablet: acer iconia a500 [honeycomb]
home: C2D E8500, 4GB RAM, 74GB Raptor HDD + 2.5TB in various HDD [debian squeeze, liquorix kernel]

Re: What media/music player do YOU use?

I'd use VLC, but mplayer is the only video player that supports Real Media playback.
With an amped up mplayer .config, nothing comes close to matching its functionality!

Re: What media/music player do YOU use?

i have now adopted decibel-audio player for music, just fits to my needs, i'm finally satisfied with it. Other software i tried were either crashing (eg Audacious) or too heavy (eg rhythmbox).

problem i still have is how to prevent the computer to sleep whenever music is playing.

Re: What media/music player do YOU use?

Quod Libet and VLC because they both just work.

MPD, Rhythmbox, and MoC have all given me grief in the past.

Re: What media/music player do YOU use?

xmms2.

I started with Amarok, but found that, although I liked all the capabilities of it, that I only used most of them rarely.  So I went to XMMS which, as opposed to Amarok always works.  The other thing being that XMMS takes up less real estate on the desk top.  However, then I learned that XMMS was not being developed much and tried others and in the process saw what was being done with XMMS2, which is just the sound "server" and can use any appropriately configured "client".  Presently I use either Esperanza or gKrellm as the client, again, depending on what I want.  If I just want music, then Esperanza, if I want to watch the CPU and check e-mail then gKrellm.

If one is editing music, say for instance, then instead of using say, Songbird, then one can hook XMMS2 into the editor, thus saving real estate and resources.

One of my goals here, after fiddling for a while, is to probably ask..since I'm not that smart...how to hook XMMS2 into conky! lol
