This post was inspired by kbangs post right before this one.

Questions:

Re: Questions on the netbook interface

Try this: install alacarte and then open it. From there I think you can uncheck the Favorites menu.

Re: Questions on the netbook interface

can i at least get rid of the heart.
I can deal with the extra menu (im already thinking of a use for it....)
but the HEART HAS TO GO!
i refuse to have such a non-professional polygon anywhere on my computer.
is there a way to change it to somethin else or (preferably) get rid of it?

Re: Questions on the netbook interface

@ rigosantana3 : you can change icon if you want .. edit /usr/share/desktop-directories/Favorites.directory

Icon=/where_is_your/custom/icon.png

maybe you can take a look : https://answers.edge.launchpad.net/netbook-remix

Re: Questions on the netbook interface

WOOT!!
ADcomp-
you were right. AND i was also able to change the name to something else!! (i changed it to "home" since it's the first thing when the comp boots)
I changed the icon to another one and BINGO the heart is gone - it didn't display the new icon, but i still win.
YAY!!!!!
THANK YOU

If any of you a have another suggestion for the new name of my former favorites menu please post below- "home" is a conflict for obvious reasons, (i am not using "start" like in windows so don't even think about it.)

Re: Questions on the netbook interface

Some ideas:

  • Shortcuts

  • MRU

  • Recent

Re: Questions on the netbook interface

MRU?
Explain-?

Re: Questions on the netbook interface

Most Recently Used  ..?

Re: Questions on the netbook interface

maybe is should explain what it's used for....

The favorites menu will be empty- the only thing seen will be the emblem of the [censored content] military forces.
This particular computer is being used as a military computer.
So when first booted up..... the emblem will sow through, since there is  nothing in the menu.

This will be achieved by putting the emblem on a black background and then setting it as the desktop background.

Now you see why i couldn't have a heart on a military computer?

So now any ideas on what to call it besides "home"

Re: Questions on the netbook interface

Then how about these:

  • Barracks

  • Confidential

Re: Questions on the netbook interface

UPDATE:
the launcher was having heart attacks with diffrent icons, so i ended up replacing the actual favorites icon with the debian one in the gnome icons directory itself.
here:
/usr/share/icons/Tango/scalable/emblems/
So now there will never be a heart icon anywhere on my system ever again.
YAY!
the reason i do not want a heart is because computers are tools.. they are not meant to be "cute" or "fun"

this is also the reason why i hate the nintendo DS so much- but thats another story.
If you wanna hear why i hate the DS ask me and ill make another post about it.
