Yes it can. Here a person installed it on a Macbook Pro:

You're joking right? You can get much more powerful specs in non-apple laptops dollar for dollar.

Uhh...apple.com says $1299 for generic macbook...i sure hope thats not your definition of cheap ![]()

wow, each of those sentences is exactly the opposite of my train of thinking...
wow.... where do you live where macs are considered *cheap*?
Over here (western europe, to be precise: the netherlands), macs are anything but cheap. Last time I checked a macbook was about 400 euros more expensive than a 'normal' laptop with comparable specs.
And for OS-X, it takes some getting used to. Like every OS.
But yes, #! can be installed on a mac.
not cheap?
i saw a commercial where a lady was looking for a PC and she came across a mac with 2 gigs o ram and she said it was under 200 yo's
(damn- lying windows commercials, oh wait, microsoft always lies)
I run a different Ubuntu-based distro on a Macbook Pro and it's pretty much all great, out of the box.
Have a look at the Mac Ubuntu guides here https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Intel_iMac as a lot of the material will be relevant. In particular you're likely to want to install a program called Pommed to make some Mac features work (backlit keyboard, certain function keys, etc.).
But mostly you should just find it works really well. However, as others have said, you can get similar spec hardware for less money. If you like Apple design (and why wouldn't you?) then the premium you pay might be worth it. But a large part of the premium you pay for a Mac is for the guarantee that Mac OS (which is just another Unix) works flawlessly with the hardware. It's a hard- and software bundle and has a lot to recommend it if you like OS X.

I don't know what commercial you saw but maybe it said $2000? Also why would Microsoft say Macs are cheap?
Mac computer are same than other pc now, they haven't any difference, so you can istall crunchbang in a mac ![]()
But why a mac? there is pc whit same config less expensive than mac, dell is a good exemple ![]()
I agree with the others. You choose a mac when you like the interface, the OS,... but not because they are cheap.
I bought an Asus Netbook, put a 2 Go RAM into it, and it's less expensive than the MacBook Air.

I love how she says "it only has 2 gigs of ram" and then she cant say anything cause she doesn't know what the hell she's talking about... 2 gigs is more than enough to edit video you stuck up bi*ch. If you knew soooo much then why the hell do you need a sales accosiate??
2 gigs will run any operating, plus, ram has little dealings with video editing. what you need to look at is the damn processor.
[starts going into a rant about people who think they know computers but then when you mention linux they say "whats that"]

I don't think this is necessary. Your point can be made without this type of abuse. Please keep that in mind for the future.
Only 2GB? I don't think Id accept that either, if only considering even cheap laptops have 4GB.

Yeah, I see 3-4 GB RAM laptops for $600-$700 at walmart everyday.
I have a mac with #! and Mac OS X side by side ![]()
1. Mac is (still) not a regular PC - there is no Bios, so if you want a dualboot you need to install an additional software (follow macintel wiki). Most important is to set a min fan speed upto 3000 so your mac will not cook (mac gets hot with linux - don't ask why
)
2. It is not recommended to delete Mac OS X.
3.Yes, Macbooks are sometimes cheap - few years ago, my white mac was the cheapest 13' notebook I could get (with a student discount)
4.With 3GB of ram you can run almost any OS in virtualbox within mac os x - with no pain. That is how I run Windows XP and sometimes some other linux distros - to be honest it is the easiest way, and sometimes the best (and safest for mac) way ![]()
I'm having a partition issue on my Mac.
I have 3 partitions already, one I assume for the mac booting (Sorry not sure what it is) one for OSX itself and then one for my old Windows partition I no longer need.
From #! Live CD I reformatted Windows partition with ext2 and installed. After reboot hold the option key only brought up the OSX option.
Any ideas?

Try starting a new thread in the "Help & Support" forum with your problem summary in the subject line.
do you have http://refit.sourceforge.net/refit?
if so, at the boot you have to update your mbr (something like update grub
) and all should be fine...
