And this, my friends, is why i took the hit and just installed yakuake.

That is taking a hit!  I flip back and forth between tilda and guake.  I like and dislike things about both.  Other than no segmentation fault / kill config what is it that you like about yakuake?

Also update - Tilda transparency worked for me if i enabled eyecandy.  I'm quite happy and fault free with both disabled.

Re: nice quake style terminal

yakuake just works.

Though I can't seem to get the transparency to work, but it probably just requires a restart (it DOES require compositing on for deffo.) of yakuake and I ain't bothered by transparency.

And it wasn;t a big hit for me, I already had kopete. the only additional package yakuake needed after having already installed kopete and it's dependencies was Konsole

Oh.  For me it would be 102mb as 23 pkgs for me.  Quite different if you get multi use out of the dependencies.

Re: nice quake style terminal

Aye, I know.
Though given that I never use Kopete anymore =/

But I'm sure I'll find another use for them

Re: nice quake style terminal

Sorry to drone on about this, but for the record: An alternate piece of software is not really a solution. Especially given that it would install a ton of KDE junk on my tiny Eee PC.

For the record I don't have animation, transparency, or anything fancy going on at all. I like Tilda very much, and would have no issues with it, were it not for this fault. sad

Re: nice quake style terminal

Well I have absolutely no clue as to how to stop it segfaulting, so I can't offer any other advice.

Maybe try guake if you don't want KDE all over your EEE?

Re: nice quake style terminal

I tried tilda, but it doesn't work, gtk problem, segfault. I tried Guake too. But i don't really like it.
My choice go on Stjerm http://code.google.com/p/stjerm-terminal/

Install: sudo apt-get install stjerm
Then just edit your .Xdefaults with for example that:

stjerm.key: a
stjerm.mod: windows
stjerm.opacity: 100
stjerm.background: #202020
stjerm.foreground: #CBCBCB
stjerm.scrollbar: none
stjerm.showtab: one
stjerm.border: thin
stjerm.width: 600
stjerm.height: 200
stjerm.autohide: false
stjerm.font: Monospace 9

Add stjerm & in your autostart

Re: nice quake style terminal

just tried stjerm and I like it, I'll give it a spin for a while longer.

I say never be complete, I say stop being perfect, I say lets evolve, let the chips fall where they may.

Re: nice quake style terminal

I like guake.
it starts with openbox - i just added it to autostart.sh.

long time tilda fan.   used yakuake in kde for a while, but found myself gravitating towards tilda even then.

tabs and transparency working perfectly.  it doesnt seem to glitch the graphics anymore.  no tiling though, which i do miss.

i have it dropping down by pressing my "ThinkVantage" button, which seems to have been purpose built for it!  big_smile   ;D

stjerm sounds interesting.....
