Topic: [solved] Latest Firefox
What's the best way of getting Firefox 3.5 on here? Should I just download an archive and extract it over what I've got or should I add a PPA - if so which one?

https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-mozilla-d rchive/ppa
Thanks that seemed to do it. It was the 'daily' that stopped me adding before - I guessed it referred to 3.6 nightlies.
Omns, thanks for the mozilla daily ppa link. I tried firefox-3.5 and lost my bookmarks. So i went the daily, running firefox-3.6a1pre everything good now.
I haven't really looked into it but I do have firefox-3.5 on my machine but my default browser is still 3.01. How do I switch my default browser over?
Any instructions for #! 8.10.02?
I've been reading several resources but being a true noob am not really sure which way to go, as they all refer to Jaunty, not Intrepid...

TIA,
Just use the Ubuntu Mozilla Daily PPA as omns suggested:
https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-mozilla-d rchive/ppa
Thank you, anonymous. I did just that, but ended up with a parallel installed version of 3.5pre 'shiretoko' instead of the final... I guess I will have to wait for the proper version to be made available through the official repos. ![]()

Did you make sure to run "sudo apt-get update" after adding the PPA? The PPA I posted has Firefox 3.5.1 (builds after the final version).
Also I don't think Hardy/Intrepid/Jaunty will get Firefox 3.5 since its not a security update. Maybe it will be in the backports, otherwise you'll just have to wait for Ubuntu Karmic Koala (9.10).
Just downloading and extracting the tarball from mozilla is another option until an official release. I just extracted it into a folder in my home directory and run it from there. It works fine. You could also extract it into /opt if you wanted it system wide.
Great! Now on 9.04.01, followed omns solution. Much better... Thanks! ![]()
After 3.5 appeared in the repos I struggled with that then I went back to the 'downloading the archive' solution and now I've just tried Ubuntuzilla:
http://sourceforge.net/apps/mediawiki/ubuntuzilla/
Now running 3.5.3 - it looks like this is the solution I'll be going with.
Ubuntuzilla seems to work quite well. However the fonts in firefox 3.5.3 look like garbage. Any idea how to fix this?
