For now as far as I know Openbox doesnt support icons.
Perhaps in the future who knows. But not right now.
There is a wee hack here http://crunchbanglinux.org/forums/post/836/#p836

I will wait ^^....thanks ![]()
Personally, I really like the fact that Openbox's menu does not show icons, it allows the menu to load faster. I also think the menu looks cleaner without icons. Just my 2 cents.

Having options is always a great think. Isnt that what linux is all about? Choice?
I could be wrong but fluxbox has menus with a plugin, its not default. Openbox could have something like that on the future...
Speaking of which (dunno if that's how it's write) this thread is at the wrong place, shouldnt be on Openbox talk or perhaps Help and support?
^ Thank you. Moved to Openbox Talk ![]()

I agree.
Me three. I used to use Fluxbuntu, and it was really annoying each time I added an application to try and track down the icon to add to the menu. As a result, some of my apps had icons and some didn't, and it looked kind of sloppy.

I "sort of" agree, although I prefer having a very small number of icons in the lower left lxpanel area. Mine include the lxpanel's apps menu, firefox, mplayer, recordMyDesktop, and liferea rss. With an empty desktop with a few panel icons, it still maintains a clean, non-distracting appearance.

I'd like to see icons in there myself, so +1 for that cause.
Although icons are often seen as irrelevant bling, people (like me, at least) find it quicker and easier to recognise shapes than read text. Although, before too long you will 'learn' the menu.
Icon's don't have to be all glossy, 3D and drop-shadowed - in fact, as Susan Kare discovered when she designed the original MacOS and Windows icons, simple is often better. That's in keeping with #!, yes?
On the subjects of icons, I think the file manager could do with a themed set more in keeping with the rest of #! (ie. black/monochrome)

Me too. It's a visual irritation for me when I have a clean menu (if I had icons), and some icon doesn't fit the look/theme/feel of the others.. Or there's a icon missing from an application. Yes, irritating.
No icons for me please, tg there is freedom of choice.

i imagine there's a way to change the font; you could always use the openlogos font for some icons.

This is a good idea. I will try this. It is fast in two ways: Quick finding of menue items and a quick openeing of the menu.
Cool. I like this forum. I can find a lot of inspirations ![]()
Seems like the OB devs won't budge on this: http://urukrama.wordpress.com/openbox-faq/#icons
Can Openbox show icons in the root menu?
No.
^ Good News ![]()
There is actually a git branch (optionally using imlib2) with this in and, as i understand it, it is possible it might one day creep in, it seems popular and might help people locate things quicker, either way it is not a big deal, is it?

How do I use fonts in the menu?
I tryed this, but I failed:
<item label="${font webdings:size=10}N${font sans-serif:size=8}test">
...any idés?
@jemy - Do not cross post. You already have a separate thread asking about fonts. Also you bumped a rather old thread.
