Topic: Undervolting the CPU for prolonged batterylife, reduced fan noise

very interesting concept especially useful for notebook owners.
this article shows what's in it for you (even though its windows based)

here is one well visited thread:

one targeting multicoresystems:

I'm gonna investigate further and try it, hope my laptop will produce less noise then

itsn't that the same thing as eeeasy/elmurato script/eee-control "powersave mode"?

Re: Undervolting the CPU for prolonged batterylife, reduced fan noise

Afaik those scripts just change the CPU frequency but they don't undervolt it.

I've been meaning to look into this, but I just reinstalled karmic and it isn't supported in the new kernel. they compiled the modules into the kernel that you need to patch, so you'd have to recompile the whole kernel, which I guess is technically still supported, but too much effort for me.

I say never be complete, I say stop being perfect, I say lets evolve, let the chips fall where they may.

you can get a precompiled kernel (2.6.28-13) here:
