Topic: You wanted a new translation department?

Hi everyone.
I just noticed that the translation project is dead. and according to the post that are in there you are looking for someone who already knows more than one language to bring it back to life and lead it in an organized manner. I have seen several users here asking for different keyboard support and language translations and for the most part- we can't help them.

I hate to be un-humble.... but I believe I'm the one you have been looking for.
I speak two languages fluently and I believe I can organize our multi- lingual members (seeing as how I do this in my own job everyday) to produce accurate translations of Crunchbang. My shortened language resume is below.

Currently in a management position managing several hundred employees who speak either or both of two languages.

Job Title: Department Head, Sony Playstation software and OS development
Location: Sony Computer Entertainment International- United States Headquarters, Santa Anna, CA,USA

Linguistics: English, Japanese

Education:
BA: Computer Science, University of South Florida
AA: Astronomy, University of South Florida
Comp TIA: A+ Computer Certified, United States Army
Embedded OS Certified: University of Tokyo, Kiwanaka Institute

Re: You wanted a new translation department?

Just now I uttered 'cunning LINGUIST' out loud (don't ask, an incident involving a drunken driver and substandard third world medical care) and the guy from the cubicle diagonal to me shot back, 'ringosantana3?!' ... I replied, 'YES! ringosantana3 ... the one and only RINGOSANTANA3!!!!!'.

Re: You wanted a new translation department?

Thanks for nominating yourself, I could add kindergarten level spanish and german if you need(I don't think I'm even that good at them)  wink

I say never be complete, I say stop being perfect, I say lets evolve, let the chips fall where they may.

Re: You wanted a new translation department?

meh
this is the internet, everyone can say everything about anything - for instance, i'm chairman of a big oil company. ha. ha.

personally, i don't give a flying f*** if the stuff rigos said is bs or not, either way he seems to think he's the right guy for the job.
my opinion: lets try it out. if it fails, we'll have learned smth. if it doesn't, we'll bring #! to new levels of greatness.

i have spoken. hugh.

Re: You wanted a new translation department?

Well geez. I was hoping to get more optimism about this.
And trb- If you doubt my credentials you are free to contact said company and inquire yourself.

Re: You wanted a new translation department?

Hi Rigosantana3,

i copied Nikus idea http://crunchbanglinux.org/forums/post/29587/#p29587 and as posted on the translation forum, i started with a translation into Italian of conky, I was planning to move to menu.xml and then some of the wiki pages,

i might have some more spare time in the next days, not sure, but if you have any suggestion on what to translate (what order to start from etc.) or any suggestion...feel free to let me know

take care

M

Re: You wanted a new translation department?

Thanks mcarni.
The first thing that would need to be done is to find members who are bi-lingual and ask them to translate small things (such as conky and openbox). We don't want to overwhelm the translators by working the whole OS at once. I also believe we should do one language at a time to avoid making a mess of the whole thing.

Re: You wanted a new translation department?

@santana - the list of translators would be a good start nah?

Note: ** Please read before posting **

BTW if you wish to contact me, send me an e-mail instead of a PM.

Would that mean translating what is output to the user interface or the whole code?

Re: You wanted a new translation department?

I was looking at that list and as you'll see, most of them are either inactive or MIA. Including the former leader.
Thanks for looking out though.
In terms of active members, one above has already volunteered. But finding members should not be to much of a problem seeing as how all thats needed is a simple recruitment post.
But once again I can't do anything without Mr. Newborough.

i imagine the inquiry:
"dear sony corporation, is the #! forum member rigosantana3 really part of your staff as he pretends ? don't you have any task to give him to occupy his days ? is he also spamming your whole company with unimportant off-topic messages ? thanks for your answer"

no more proprietary OS at home, and still no printer smile

It would be unnecessary to translate the code. The only parts to be translated would be what the user can see.

If you doubt my abilities than you should not be afraid of putting me to the test, seeing as how it will surely prove you were right.

Re: You wanted a new translation department?

Thank you both for volunteering and I see your willingness to help the community as good traits in a person.
However I am powerless to proceed with any operations until Mr. Newborough gives me a nod.

Re: You wanted a new translation department?

Rigo - the whole ethos of Crunchbang is being Open Source and community based, therefore no permission is needed from corenominal if you wish to develop something further that will benefit more users.

Generally in Open Source projects "project leaders" are selected on a merit basis, usually determined by their previous contributions and ability to engage other users effectively.

I think the best way forward now for you is to just get on with it, and prove to all your doubters out there that you are up to the challenge and the "right man" for the job.  smile

Re: You wanted a new translation department?

I think we should use the #! Launchpad for this...seems the best way to get everything in one place....

Re: You wanted a new translation department?

Thank you Ms. Newborough.
But unfortunately for me to carry forward I would need the current Translation forum to be completely eradicated and for an entirely new one to be put in place that would match the organizational structure that is required to run such an operation.
And I of course do not have the power to do that. Only Mr. Newborough or a moderator with those powers can perform the aforementioned construction.
If asked of me, I will create a flowchart of the necessary structures.

Ok then...

1. How do I bypass that pre-IPL shit on the PSP3000?
2. Why KIRK and SPOCK? lol
3. What's the bounty on Dark_Alex' head?

@Topic: I'd sign in for german and 1337 translation, too.

I'm so meta, even this acronym

1. This task has already been accomplished: http://pspupdates.qj.net/TA-088v3-pre-I … aid/126604

2. Kirk and Spock were chosen because during that time interracial friendships is something Gene Roddenberry wanted to breed. This is the same reason why an African American was chosen as the
communications officer.

3. There is currently no bounty on Dark_ Alex's head. However there is a small reward for anyone in the OS department that finds a way to stop him.

I was talking about the cypher modules KIRK and SPOCK in the psp firmware. But I kinda like your answer big_smile
