Topic: Howto: Change mouse cursor theme and size

Create (if not already existing) or edit your ~/.Xdefaults file and add these lines:

Xcursor.theme: name
Xcursor.size: 32

Just change the name and/or size to your preference. Then logout and log back in to see the change.

BTW I initially thought gcursor could be used for this purpose, but after searching it seems this program is broken.

Im not sure what you mean by this, but did you put both the theme name and size in the .Xdefaults file?

Re: Howto: Change mouse cursor theme and size

no, i change the link in /usr/share/icons/defaults to point it to my custom index.theme . so , i have my custom cursor on desktop but maybe i asked a too small size  (16 px).
and i've edit my ~/.Xdefaults like you said with custom-name & size.

Re: Howto: Change mouse cursor theme and size

Does changing the theme at least work? Can you change the size for other themes?

Re: Howto: Change mouse cursor theme and size

in fact: Xdefault doesn't override /usr/share/icons/defaults config , and even if i put the same cursor-name, i can't change the size... ? ....
as i've got a xfce-session, i tried to log in xfce and change the cursor style with xfce-settings; it works for the theme but not for the size <16 so i think cursors cannot be smaller than 16px.
talking about Xtheme-changing in openbox-session, i think i'll see it tomorrow ...
thanks for your help, i'll try different config and send it back here

Re: Howto: Change mouse cursor theme and size

i tried making my own cursor, and using the tips here ( http://www.ehow.com/how_5026012_make-cu … buntu.html ) , on my sabayon machine, no joy.   gonna try on crunchbang here.  if it works, then thats a useful link and this isnt a waste of a post.   ^_^ wink

@arpinux: you can try adding the following to your autostart.sh:

xrdb -merge ~/.Xdefaults
